  • Rural holiday park with lakeside pitches in Herefordshire countryside
  • A 20-minute drive to Berrington Hall, and 25 minutes to Ludlow
  • Nine-hole golf course, fishing and crown bowling; restaurant and bar
Set in 80 acres of mature parkland by the side of its namesake lake, Herefordshire’s Pearl Lake Leisure Park is five minutes’ drive from Powys, gateway to mid-Wales, while Shropshire’s historic town of Ludlow is 25 minutes by car. This lovely holiday park is just the spot for anyone wanting relaxation in spades, but also some gentle pastimes like fishing and crown bowling – as well as a challenging nine-hole golf course – which are luckily all available on site. Kids don’t miss out either, with a play area, five-a-side football pitch and a large recreation field. Other fun happenings include zipwires and climbing frames and of course, there are lots of woodland areas to explore while playing hide and seek among the trees. And life couldn’t be easier on site. Fill up on goodies for the barbecue at shops in Shobdon, only five minutes’ walk away. Don’t fancy cooking? Simply get yourself down to the Lakeside Bar and Bistro for a quiet drink on the sun-trap terrace, Sunday lunch or a game of pool. Alongside a B road, there will be some road noise on all pitches, but Pearl Lake Leisure Park is very much certain the quality facilities on offer will make up for it.

Fully-serviced gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: - friendliness of staff and static caravan people - food in the bar was excellent and reasonably priced - band on Saturday were good - park is great for young children, with a grass bike trail perfect for our toddler on his strider - golf course was great at £8 a day, well kept and nice layout - everything worked on the serviced pitch - Wi-Fi was good - toilet block was clean

Disliked: Being very picky- The road is directly behind the touring caravan pitches and is very loud at night and did wake our toddler a few times when big Lorry’s went passed. There was lots of land on the park and it would be lovely if the touring caravan pitches could have been further into the site away from the road. We would still come again though as it was a lovely site.

Liked: The site was unbelievably clean and tidy. Full services on the pitch and all my leads and waste reached. Good facilities in the shower rooms. Staff were freindly. Peaceful walks around the site.

Disliked: Although we were aware of the road noise when booking, it was quite loud but out of the sites control. After 4 days it started to bug us.

Local attractions

What to do first? Well, if you’re travelling with kids, they’ll probably love you forever if you let them spend time observing the owls or meeting pygmy goats and cute Valais Blacknose sheep (or feeding their lambs in spring) at the Small Breeds Farm Park (20 minutes’ drive). If science is more their thing, join a guided tour of the working observatory at The Spaceguard Centre (25 minutes) to learn about asteroids and comets. To explore a woodland rich in wildlife, pack a picnic and head out on the trails in Mortimer Forest (20 minutes). There’s a walk for all levels of abilities and you might spot deer or birds of prey as you enjoy views over Shropshire and Herefordshire into Wales. For a ramble combined with a history lesson, follow the path up to the Iron Age earthworks at Croft Ambrey Hillfort (10 minutes). Local National Trust treasures include Croft Castle and Parkland (10 minutes), with an impressive 11th-century mansion, gardens and a vineyard to have a root around, or period furniture and elaborate costumes to admire at graceful Georgian-era Berrington Hall (20 minutes). Ludlow (25 minutes) also warrants a visit for its spectacular half-timbered buildings, medieval castle and lively restaurant scene.
