General

  • Small and friendly site 100 yards from the Severn
  • Close to a riverside fifteenth century inn
  • A short walk from Tewkesbury

Take time out for a spot of fishing on the River Severn, followed by a drink in the fifteenth century inn nearby, where the views are as tasty as the food and drink...

The Willows is a small, friendly site, and you couldn't ask for more in terms of location: despite being encircled by bucolically beautiful scenery, with the river (and separately owned pub) a mere hundred yards away, it’s only a short walk into the lovely historic town of Tewkesbury.

You can pick up your freshwater fishing permit in the pub (as if you needed an excuse for a visit...).

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Only stayed one night on the way home from Dorset, nice site with a lovely canalside pub with barges on the canal, a little off the beaten track with no shop so be prepared and you will not be disappointed. Would of scored higher but toilet/ shower block could do with an update

Very peaceful and quiet site, very secluded location on the banks of the river behind the pub. Would visit again as location very tranquil however site could do with some tlc.

    Disliked:

Could do with some signage from the main road so you have an inkling you are on the right track and you sat nav is not taking you on a wild goose chase. Toilet and shower facilities basic and cold, would be unable to cope if site was busy.

The Willows is awesome - the staff are really friendly and couldn't do enough to help. The campsite is quiet and people are nice. It is a beautiful location, right by the river and perfect for canoeing or starting out on a bike ride or walk. The facilities are good too. Really recommended.

Great, traditional old-fashioned pub on-site. The beer was great and the food looked nice, but we'd already eaten. Great views out on to the river.

The site is pretty quiet and a reasonable amount of room for children to run around.

    Disliked:

Pretty basic site that feels like it needs some TLC. The shower toilet block was functional, but run-down, grubby and had leaking pipes.

What it obviously once was ..... and could be again....

    Good level pitches
    Clean facilities
Large handicapped shower - Despite :-
No lock on ladies shower block - been dug out and broken off completely
Toilet seat - in one of the two toilets broken off.
Shower curtain - in one of the two showers - ending well above !! the shower tray.

    Disliked:

The dilapidation and 'tiredness' of the place.... ferry not working with no notice so without transport stranded on the 'wrong' side of the river with only means of sustenance the Pub - which also was suffering from delapidation and tiredness building and menu wise - and although described as 'not connected' to the Willows was decidedly so with the barman and camp warden the same person.

Grass mown after being long and then left around on top

Local attractions

Slotted into a slender strip of land at the meeting point of the Severn and Avon rivers, Tewkesbury hasn’t changed much over the centuries: black and white Tudor buildings overhang the narrow streets, and the twelfth century abbey has the highest Norman tower in England. There are town and country museums to explore, historic buildings like the Old Baptist Chapel, plus shops and entertainment aplenty.

The local countryside and riverbanks are great for ramblers and guests will find boat and bike hire, windsurfing and golf courses nearby. Also on your doorstep are the golden villages and verdant hills of the Cotswolds and attractive provincial towns and cities such as Cheltenham and Gloucester.

Must see

  • Tewkesbury Abbey (0.8 miles)
  • Croome Park (National Trust) (8.3 miles)
  • Gloucester Cathedral (8.6 miles)

  • Bredon Barn (3.9 miles)
