General

  • Small and friendly site 100 yards from the Severn
  • Close to a riverside fifteenth century inn
  • A short walk from Tewkesbury

Take time out for a spot of fishing on the River Severn, followed by a drink in the fifteenth century inn nearby, where the views are as tasty as the food and drink...

The Willows is a small, friendly site, and you couldn't ask for more in terms of location: despite being encircled by bucolically beautiful scenery, with the river (and separately owned pub) a mere hundred yards away, it’s only a short walk into the lovely historic town of Tewkesbury.

You can pick up your freshwater fishing permit in the pub (as if you needed an excuse for a visit...).

We love this place, the site is generally well maintained within a scenic area right by the river. The shower block is quite basic but clean and suitable. The local Inn next to the site is a great serving great meals and usually offering live entertainment. Really enjoyed our visit and will return again.

We were looking for something to just take the kids away for the weekend and away from the usual hectic sites where there is a pool or entertainment. this was to ensure the kids don't always expect to have that sort of entertainment everytime we go away. The Willows was exactly what we needed. Weather was a bonus as it allowed the kids to get outside and meet some new friends. Playing on their bikes, playing cricket or even water fights. Yes the site is small and not much to do but it was just what we wanted. There is a toilet block with showers which are adequate, clean and tidy. There is also a pub within a few mins walk although we didn't use this.

Overall really happy with the stay and would certainly go back again for a weekend due to ease of getting there in a short time.

The location was picturesque, lovely walks and riverside pub. During the summer months it would idyllic. The staff were excellent, great communication and helped people when needed (when positioning their van). We will return later in the year.

Our stay at the Willows was lovely, very peaceful, but the campsite was not busy, might have been a different story if the site was full.
The toilet and shower block are very basic, but clean, and nice hot showers.
The walk from the site into Tewkesbury took roughly 40mins through fields, we enjoyed this as we have a lively Springer spaniel, who really enjoyed as she was off lead for most of the walk. A shorter walk would have been to cross the river on a ferry ! run by a local man but as it was quiet we didnt bother him, that walk would have been 10 mins.
The pub next to the site was lovely, as it was Oct. a lovely log burner and candles, and the food was excellent. Even better it was dog friendly.

Location right on the river as advertised, a really decent pub on doorstep, availability of electric hook-up at no extra cost and friendly service from site manager.

    Disliked:

The toilet and shower block could have been a bit cleaner - in terms of cobwebs and spiders/insects, but it’s accepted that it must be tricky keeping an outside block totally clear of those.

Local attractions

Slotted into a slender strip of land at the meeting point of the Severn and Avon rivers, Tewkesbury hasn’t changed much over the centuries: black and white Tudor buildings overhang the narrow streets, and the twelfth century abbey has the highest Norman tower in England. There are town and country museums to explore, historic buildings like the Old Baptist Chapel, plus shops and entertainment aplenty.

The local countryside and riverbanks are great for ramblers and guests will find boat and bike hire, windsurfing and golf courses nearby. Also on your doorstep are the golden villages and verdant hills of the Cotswolds and attractive provincial towns and cities such as Cheltenham and Gloucester.
