General

  • Small and friendly site 100 yards from the Severn
  • Close to a riverside fifteenth century inn
  • A short walk from Tewkesbury

Take time out for a spot of fishing on the River Severn, followed by a drink in the fifteenth century inn nearby, where the views are as tasty as the food and drink...

The Willows is a small, friendly site, and you couldn't ask for more in terms of location: despite being encircled by bucolically beautiful scenery, with the river (and separately owned pub) a mere hundred yards away, it’s only a short walk into the lovely historic town of Tewkesbury.

You can pick up your freshwater fishing permit in the pub (as if you needed an excuse for a visit...).

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Quiet location. The pub is very close & my husband was impressed with the beer available!!! The views across the river are lovely. Boats going past & plenty of wildlife. There's plenty of history around the area & I must say driving in my feet were itching to get out & look at the church & cemetery we passed. Welcomed by a pleasant chap who gave us 'the code' & told us to pick our spot. We had come for 2 nights to try out the motor home we've just bought. Plenty of toilet paper & water hot. We didn't use the shower but I did observe the queues. The ferry is an adventure!!!! Saying all this & the dislikes we would come again but I'd bring the car & we would park up away from the bins.

    Disliked:

'The code' was impractical for the shower block as there was no lock at all. The bins were overflowing & as this has been mentioned before it should be sorted.
Dog poo. There were quite a few dogs on site. And quite a bit of dog poo. The only dog bin I saw was in the hedge by the Willows sign on the way out. I didn't see many people pick up their dog poop & as there were lots of children about this was unacceptable. I don't know if signs would do any good.

Loved this place tranquil and quiet but just a short walk to the pub where the food was excellent and very reasonable prices for both food and drink and the setting was beautiful next to the river and just a short drive to the lovely town of Tewkesbury the site is also just a short drive from the m5 and m50 toilet facility's are basic but adequate the shower took a little time to warm up but was very good

    Disliked:

The only downfall of this site is that there is no shop either on site or nearby but we knew this beforehand so took supplies and a cool box

Safe quiet campsite with room to let the children play and have some freedom. Facilities adequate. Good location to explore the area.

    Disliked:

Facilities not the best, could use an update. Also a play area would be a great addition even if only small and basic.

Onsite Pub was nice but small.
Looked busy from Campers/statics/tourers and boaters
Lovely and not far awar from Tewsbury

    Disliked:

We used this site for one night as a stop over travelling from Teesside to Devon to break up the long drive
Hard to find no sign post - once found it looked as if we have travelled to a different site - got out of the car to ask who I thought was a member of the public to be told "oh the Willows - its just here around this way?!"
we couldn't find anyone to check into - found a door with a notice on to say if no one is around ring this number - no answer - we drove and just found an empty plot.
Large commercial bins right next to the facitlites and the facilities were dated.
Husband had to walk around the site and eventually found a chap and we were able to pay.

Local attractions

Slotted into a slender strip of land at the meeting point of the Severn and Avon rivers, Tewkesbury hasn’t changed much over the centuries: black and white Tudor buildings overhang the narrow streets, and the twelfth century abbey has the highest Norman tower in England. There are town and country museums to explore, historic buildings like the Old Baptist Chapel, plus shops and entertainment aplenty.

The local countryside and riverbanks are great for ramblers and guests will find boat and bike hire, windsurfing and golf courses nearby. Also on your doorstep are the golden villages and verdant hills of the Cotswolds and attractive provincial towns and cities such as Cheltenham and Gloucester.

Must see

  • Tewkesbury Abbey (0.8 miles)
  • Croome Park (National Trust) (8.3 miles)
  • Gloucester Cathedral (8.6 miles)

  • Bredon Barn (3.9 miles)
