General

  • Peaceful and sheltered adults-only site set on a working farm
  • A 15-minute drive from Buxton; Bakewell 20 minutes
  • A few minutes' walk from a traditional country pub and the river Dove

Crowdecote Campsite is a peaceful farm site deep in the Peak District National Park. This adults-only site is small in size but big on rural views – green fields, trees and hills are all around, and local beauty spots like the river Dove, Chrome Hill and Parkhouse Hill are all within comfortable walking distance.

Facilities on site are low-key so as not to detract from these peaceful surrounds, but essentials like a toilet, shower, running water and a chemical disposal point are all provided. This rural spot is also home to a herd of friendly cattle and their pygmy goat pals Kenny and Dave, all of whom can be seen in fields by the site.

Dogs are welcome here, but please keep them on a lead and under control – this is a working farm, after all. Firepit are also welcome, and firewood is available to purchase on site. You'll need to keep all fires/barbecues in a steel container/firepit that's raised off the ground though (please don't light fires on the ground or try to construct a firepit out of stones).

Looking for something to make that view even nicer? A friendly country pub is a short walk away from Crowdecote Campsite. A handy local bus service that runs from Buxton to Ashbourne stops just opposite the pub, so you won't necessarily need a car if you've headed here in search of hill walks (and you can also head straight out to Dragon's Back or Chrome Hill on a footpath from the site). The next village over is Longor (just over a mile away), where there's a café, bar and well-liked local chip shop.

Please note

Group bookings of 6 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Guests under the age of 18 are not allowed on site.

A cable measuring at least 10 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

To create a natural environment, this site is all grass. Campervans, motorhomes and caravans larger than 5 metres in length and 2 metres wide are accepted, but may require assistance when entering/leaving. If you are booking a larger vehicle please prepare for this and let the site know in advance.

Made to feel very welcome, peaceful, very tidy, basic facilities but adequate. Cleaned daily, serenaded by the pheasants which was beautiful, lovely walks, pubs shut Monday and Tuesday and a bit of a walk uphill to the nearest shop, so if you have mobility issues, suggest you make sure you have the teabags ( forgot ours)!!! All in all, would most certainly be going back. OH BTW we found the "lost" Kindle which Steven even went and looked for after returning home! Oh and finally, our dog fell in love and wouldn't speak to us after bringing him home! Highly recommended indeed.
