  • On six acres of space two miles from Buxton
  • Dog-friendly site with heated amenities block
Pitching up among the trees on six acres of farmland and woodland on the edge of the Peak District and the Derbyshire Dales… all sounds pretty topping indeed. Family-run Staden Grange looks over open fields with Peak District views in all directions and is a two-mile potter or five-minute drive from elevated spa town Buxton as well as a piffling 10 to 11-mile drive from famed historical homes at Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall. Facilities on site include a heated amenities block with toilets and coin-operated showers.

Route directions

We are 2 miles from the centre of Buxton just off the A515 Buxton to Ashbourne Road. Driving from Buxton, turn left onto Staden Lane (signposted) and then drive 200 yards over a small railway bridge and turn immediately right, following the signs for Staden Grange. Follow this unmade road between fields for about a quarter of a mile and you will find the campsite on the left-hand side. Access to the site is via an industrial estate.

Local attractions

A couple of miles’ stroll through the Derbyshire countryside will take Staden Grange guests to Buxton, the highest market town in England. Have a full day or a couple of afternoons here, finishing off with a ramble and a rest at the Pavilion Gardens, 23 acres of listed greenery strolled and lazed upon by visitors to Buxton since Victorian times. A miniature train, activity park, play area and toddlers’ area have been set up in the gardens for smaller visitors, and the Buxton tourist information centre is in the gardens for info on Buxton and the Peak District. In town, snap pics of the Georgian architecture (Buxton has been described as the most complete Regency town in Britain) and wander along the shops of the old Cavendish Arcade set in Buxton’s original thermal baths before hanging around into the evening to catch a performance at Buxton Opera House or the Pavilion Arts Centre. The history of these and more are at the Buxton Museum and Art Gallery on Terrace Road, open Tuesday to Sunday with free admission. Just outside Buxton, the limestone caverns and stone poached eggs of Poole’s Cavern are a big pull for visitors; you’ll see what is meant by stone poached eggs when you see them... More caverns, caving, potholing and various other stone-based adventures abound in the Peak District National Park a few minutes’ drive from Buxton, where additionally there are acres of rocks to scale for those who prefer their adventuring above ground. Nearby at Castleton in the High Peak, four show caves open to visitors include Blue John’s Cavern, along with nearby Treak Cliff Cavern the only place in the country to find the semi-precious mineral Blue John (the cavern was also visited by the strange pair in the fab film Sightseers).

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: The help I received at reception and the children's climbing frame. The views surrounding over the fields were lovely but as you're evelated, prone to being mor windy.

Disliked: The fact planes fly over constantly! The shower cubicles,so so small and you had to pay £1 for 6 minutes. No toilet paper at one stage and the bins were overflowing. The place needs updating for amenities. Nowhere to put icepacks unfortunately.

Liked: The area, very close to a variety of towns and walks. We liked the pitches surrounded by trees and washing up facility.

Disliked: There were only 2 showers and 2 toilets for women and same for men, so it got busy during the evenings

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Site was really nice, staying in the woods under the trees was a bit different. Nice location.

Disliked: Toilet and shower facilities were a aukward as my wife (disabled) struggles with the steps. Also not enough toilets or showers. Shocked at having to pay extra £5 per shower. Pathways to toilets and wash up area could do with some paving as just a muddy track. It rained so made it difficult to get around without getting muddy.

Electric optional grass pitch (large)

Liked: The compact size of the site, accessibility of toilet/shower block, hot water for personal and pot washing, helpfulness of the host (kindly moved our pitch to a drier one).

Disliked: We disliked the pot-holey approach road to the campsite, and the fact that there was nowhere nearby to walk the dog off-lead, which we realise was not the fault of the site itself, but would be a consideration for future choices.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Everything was just amazing!! Our electrical hookup was not working so went and asked reception for advise and he immediately helped us and when we found out it was our cord that was not working, he let us use his personal one for the week. Was so helpful and kind, everything was close enough but the campsite was quiet and cozy. Would defiantly stay again

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Staden Grange is pleasant wooded site, within easy walking to Buxton.

Disliked: Some pitches were too close together not complying with the 6meter camping regulations (3meter for friend/family groups). During our stay a tents were pitched within 2 meters of our site, we observed several others were like this, maybe the owner is not aware of this regulation. Cleaning of the bathroom floors was poor, and replenishment of toilet paper was limited. I would recommend more frequent inspections. The coin operated showers failed several times during our stay, the owner could have been more responsive to our concerns and shown better customer relations.

Electric optional grass pitch (large)

Liked: Set in Forrest setting surrounded by farm land. The industrial estate is not visible at all and it’s actually a country lane you drive up to get to the site. The mini zoo/ farm was not in action. Toilets clean and warm. Firepit and bbq friendly. It’s a very quiet site. The Buxton brewery a short walk away is amazing and does some great pop up food stalls which change each week I believe. This is also very family friendly and we were here on a rainy day. Short drive to Buxton which has very nice park. Dog friendly and good park for kids. I couldn’t fault it for price.

Disliked: It was very muddy however it was heavy rain and a few cars got stuck but pulled out by owner no problem. We didn’t get stuck as parked in the parking area.
