Traveller types - move Buxton to the top of your list! The Derbyshire spa town and gateway to the Peak District was shortlisted in 2013 as one of the top three most attractive places in the British Isles (Cork and Hastings were the other two; move them to the top of your list as well).

Friendly Lime Tree Holiday Park on the edge of Buxton is a very pretty place to camp. In its own valley in a Special Landscaped Area, it is surrounded by farmland and has a wooded limestone gorge and striking old railway viaduct at one edge. It’s also the closest campsite to the town of Buxton – which is about a mile away. (There are maps, brochures and sheets of information on attractions in the area at the Lime Tree reception or ask one of the helpful staff for advice on things to see and do.)

On site, there’s an adventure playground and for the family to laugh in the face of rainy days, an indoor games room with pool table, kids’ corner and TV/DVDs. Other amenities include a launderette with ironing facilities; a well-stocked shop with local produce and an ice block freezing facility; gas cylinder exchange and a microwave for heating babies’ or toddlers’ food.
