Lane End Farm: Site entrance

General

  • Small-scale Peak District farm site for adults only
  • Just off the A623, a mile from Litton; Tideswell five minutes' drive
  • Back to basics campsite with spectacular hill views

Monsal Trail cycling, Peak District pubs and green farm vistas… what a combination. Get stuck into the lot of them with a stay at Lane End Farm, a small-scale Buxton site a couple of miles from Tideswell village.

This adults-only working farm is conveniently located just off the A623, a few hundred yards from historic Peter's Stone and the wildlife of Cressbrook Dale National Nature Reserve. Two pubs are within a mile: the Three Stags Heads Inn just off the main road and the Red Lion Inn, a short walk away in the village of Litton. In addition, there's Tideswell's wide range of cafés, fish and chip joints, takeaways and shops, all of which are a five-minute drive away. To top it off, there's a small supermarket here (handy to have if you're barbecuing).

These surroundings are easy to get to grips with, as Lane End Farm has some truly excellent views over local Peak District terrain. As a rule, this is a hilly part of the world, making the scenery all the more interesting. That said, there are no abrupt slopes on site: just acres of flat green farm pastures for hassle-free pitching. At times you'll see spring lambs frolicking through the fields too.

The facilities here are basic, but both toilets and showers are maintained to a high standard. Sometimes local produce is available to buy too – chat to site staff for details.

Good site, with lovely views. Good facilities, including a bathroom with loo, shower, wash basin! Really clean, and well kept. Friendly hosts. The only issue was the noisy road, but it wasn’t too much of a problem and would definitely go back.

Everything about this campsite was perfect. We arrived on Friday afternoon and was given the prime location for pitching and was immediately greeted by the friendly neighbourhood cows in the field next door. The site is lovely and small (only 6/7 large plots) and is adults only so was very quiet.

The location was utterly perfect and very central for everything you'd want to see in the Peaks. The facilities were absolutely spotless and the bathroom/shower room/block was utterly immaculate and cleaned daily. As a bonus, the shower was lovely and hot and powerful - more so than ours at home!

I couldn't recommend it more highly!

This lovely adult only camsite on a small farm, has superb views and only 7 pitches for tents and motor homes. The shower and toilet facilities were spotless and the owner was chatty and helpful. Right on the edge if a nature reserve it is well placed for some beautiful walks, and the nearby red lion pub does excellent food and a good selection of local beers and has a large amount of out door seating around the pretty village green.

    Disliked:

The campsite is by a road and fields of cattle so if you after total quiet it may not be for you, however it did not bother us and we had a great nights sleep and a nice lie in since no kids allowed

We are pleased to leave this review for this small new site. Nicely spread out pitches not packed in. The owner was friendly and helpful. Dog friendly. Two toilets and the amazing power shower was fine with no waits. All kept clean. Eggs available and good recycling. The location is pretty special. We had cows checking us out from the next field as they weren't used to visitors yet and that was pretty cool! The site is a hop, skip and a jump from Cressbrook Dale National Nature Reserve which was gorgeous and close to Peter's Stone. Plenty of walking routes for all abilities. Very manageable walk to Litton where there is the Red Lion for great food which is highly recommended (best sticky toffee pudding ever!) and a pretty green. We took our bikes and there are a few cheeky hills to get to the best ice cream in Tideswell just after Litton plus a Co-op for breakfast treats!
We will be back for Monsal Trail cycling and to have a nose around Buxton.

    Disliked:

There isn't a pavement on the short walk to Litton so need to take care with dogs. The sound of suped motorcycles travels but wasn't a massive spoiler!

Thank you for the review, and we hope too see you again.

Local attractions

This site is about three miles from Miller's Dale (10 minutes' drive), a small village on the river Wye where you can pick up the Monsal Trail towards Bakewell or Buxton. There's a well-maintained National Park-run parking spot here, plus an abseiling centre if you still have energy for adventure after covering all that ground. And if you haven't? A cosy waterside pub a few yards away will see to that.

The mighty halls and gorgeous grounds of Chatsworth House (15 minutes) are also conveniently close to base, making this campsite a good choice if you haven't finished touring the estate and want to head back for round two. There's also Lyme Park (30 minutes), an excellent National Trust-managed property that starred as Pemberley in the 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice.

Thrill-seeking guests won't want to pass up the opportunity of visiting the top-rated rides at Alton Towers (50 minutes), while those who have a head for heights but prefer to take things at a slower pace will find suitably high-altitude entertainment at Go Ape Buxton (20 minutes).
