Pitch was big enough and level... showers very good. The country park and activities were very good.

We arrived and had to pick up liter, nearly half a carrier bag. Toilet tissue on the field. Toilets were undesirable. Ran out of loo roll. There was a code for the toilets presumably to keep children out, but the door was never locked. Definitely not enough facilities for the amount of campers. No one actually patrolled the campsite. We were kept awake until 1:30 in the morning with a large group that were extremely loud. Only the shop to complain to. They did the same the following night but nit quite as late.

One of the best things about our stay was the location itself. Being so close to the National Water Sports Centre meant there was never a shortage of things to do. Whether you’re into active pursuits, exploring the outdoors, or simply letting the kids burn off energy, the site is in an excellent spot for families who enjoy variety. We really appreciated that, as it meant we could mix relaxation time in the pod with plenty of activities nearby.

The accommodation was well set up and thoughtfully designed. The deluxe pod we stayed in had everything we needed for a comfortable visit, which made the experience much easier with children in tow. Having the right amenities on hand, and a space that felt welcoming, meant we could settle in quickly without needing to worry about what we might be missing. It was also a nice balance between camping and comfort, offering the outdoor feel with a bit of extra convenience.

For families, the site is very well suited. There’s plenty of space for children to run around safely, which really helps when you want them to be entertained without constant supervision. The playgrounds were well received by the kids, and there was always a sense of liveliness on site, with enough going on to keep children and parents alike happy. That family-friendly atmosphere really set the tone of the stay.

The shared facilities, particularly the toilets and showers, were also a positive. We noticed they were given a thorough clean early each morning, which made a big difference. The availability of hot water was a real plus too – it meant showers were reliable and didn’t involve the usual camping guesswork about whether hot water would run out. Even with the differences between shower blocks, we found options that worked for us, and having a choice between them was handy.

Another element we liked was the wooden cabin toilets. These felt more spacious than some of the other facilities, which gave a little extra comfort. Even though the showers there required more frequent button-pressing, it was still good to have them as an option.

The onsite shop was another convenient feature. Even though prices were on the high side, it was undeniably useful to have essentials within easy reach, especially with children. Sometimes that convenience is worth paying extra for, and it saved us from needing to head out whenever we ran out of something small but important.

Overall, the site had a lovely atmosphere, with the right mix of activity and relaxation. The setup of the pods, the family-friendly layout, the cleanliness efforts each morning, and the excellent location all contributed to an enjoyable stay. It’s a place with real potential, and despite a few issues, we left feeling positive about our time there.

While we had a good experience overall, there were several areas where the stay could have been improved. The first issue we noticed was with the cleanliness of the pod itself. Our sofa bed smelled strongly of wet dog, despite the fact that we don’t have a dog. This suggests it was left behind by a previous guest and hadn’t been dealt with thoroughly before our arrival. Alongside that, the floor wasn’t spotless – we found dog hairs around, which isn’t what you expect when checking into a “deluxe” pod. Even allowing for the fact that the site is covered in white dust and stones, which inevitably get tracked indoors, the standard of cleaning could definitely have been higher.

The shared facilities, while generally decent, also had their drawbacks. Although they were cleaned each morning, they became messy quite quickly throughout the day, often because of guests. It was frustrating to find soap dispensers empty at times, and on more than one occasion, a number of toilets were out of order. That reduced the available options and caused queues at busy times.

We also found the wooden cabin showers to be a bit impractical. The water only ran for 30 seconds at a time before you had to press the button again, which made showering feel unnecessarily difficult, especially when trying to manage children. While other shower blocks had longer water flow, the fact that the newer wooden cabins were less convenient felt like a missed opportunity.

Another issue was litter around the site. While this may largely be down to guests not disposing of their rubbish properly, it still impacts the overall impression of the site. More regular litter-picking by staff would have gone a long way to keeping the space looking clean and welcoming. It’s something small that could make a big difference, as the setting itself is lovely, but litter can really detract from it.

The onsite shop, while useful, was noticeably expensive. A small bottle of drink at £2.70 felt excessive, especially considering that families with children are likely to use the shop regularly. On top of that, it was card-only, which could be inconvenient for some guests. While we appreciated having the shop there, the pricing and payment options made it less guest-friendly.

One other practical issue we found was the access to the National Water Sports Centre. Although the proximity was fantastic, the only way to get there was by crossing a fast-moving road. This felt unsafe at times, especially when walking with young children. A safer crossing point, or at least clearer signage or guidance, would have made a huge difference.

All in all, while the experience was enjoyable, these issues held it back from being excellent. A stronger focus on cleanliness (both in the pods and around the site), quicker repair of broken toilets, better stocking of soap, more practical shower setups, improved litter management, and more reasonable shop pricing would really elevate the experience. The site has all the right ingredients to be fantastic, but these small frustrations added up and made it feel less polished than it could be.

Lovely site & stayed in a camping arch which was ok, water sports activity centre on the doorstep & had a lovely walk around the lake while there.

Toilet block wasn't great, sanitary bins were full & some overflowing , not all the toilets had toilet paper..all could do with being updated.
