Liked: We booked at quite short notice after deciding to leave our touring caravan at home and go on a back to basics 2 night break with our 4 man tent. My husband, myself and our 9 year old daughter had been to North Yorkshire before and liked the sound of the Farm.

We arrived in the afternoon and knocked on the Farmhouse door marked 'Reception'. No one was in but a note was pinned to the door with our name on and an allocated pitch number. We drove up the track, passing the area designated for members of the Caravan Club. We were impressed with the large pitches and the new looking childrens play equipment. Once on the other side of the hedge we saw caravans and tents, again enjoying ample pitches and we proceeded to pitch our tent. Our pitch was on the edge of the site and overlooked a field used to graze cattle. It was very scenic and rural. The perfect place to relax. We later met the friendly Farmer and paid our fees which were very reasonable.

We were pleasantly surprised by the spotlessly clean, washing and toilet facilities which were adjacent to the milking parlour. They were unisex, the buildings were modern, double glazed and there were individual washing cubicles which were a very spacious. The toilets even had black and white cow design seats and there was nice attention to detail such as providing liquid soap and towels. We noticed there was also another facilities block alongside the one we used which I believe was for the use of Caravan Club members, however it seemed those were also available for general use so there was never any queuing. The blocks had washing up sinks and a freezer where ice packs could be frozen, also a selection of information leaflets about places to visit in the area. There was no charge for hot showers - unlike some sites we have stayed on before.

We discovered it was possible for children to go and watch the cows being milked, if this was booked in advance. Unfortunately we didn't manage to do this but I am sure many young campers would enjoy the experience. There were animals such as pot bellied pigs, donkeys and hens around the farm which could easily be viewed. In face the hens paid daily visits and were often to be seen around the various caravans and tents!

The site is located high on the North Yorkshire Moors and is quite isolated. However, the town of Pickering and the seaside resorts of Scarborough and Whitby are within easy reach.

Disliked: With all the positive points I have mentioned there is very little we disliked. If I have to be really picky, it is a little way to travel to the nearest shop if you run short of essentials but what would you expect being on a Farm in the country!

All in all I can highly recommend the Farm for a relaxing break. The site is ideal for families with young children - there is ample space for them to run around and enjoy some freedom. It is clear from reading the Visitors Book that many happy campers return again and again as we ourselves will do!
