Liked: Everything was nice and clean with a great toilet block. If you were into to golf it would be a perfect site for you as there is a 9 hole course there. It was conveniet to the park and ride to York Free parking and only £2 80p to get there great value.

Disliked: Nothing

Liked: The friendly helpful check in by Andrew, a nice guy. The shower/toilet block. There were ladies and gents, but the main showers are unisex within individual rooms containing shower, wc, hand basin and hair dryer. The layout of the pitches giving plenty of space. Half hourly bus service into York from the gate.

Disliked: The ground off the hardstanding was waterlogged, but as York recently experienced floods it's hardly surprising.

From the manager...

I think you have reviewed the wrong site as we don't have unisex tolets and non of our pitches get waterlogged even when York floods, we also don't have anyone called Andrew working for us.

Liked: The showers and toilets were always very clean with plenty of hot water. We used the golf course and after all the rain we had in September the course was a pleasure to be on, the bacon rolls at the club house were very nice too !! The Park and Ride at Monks Cross was another plus.

UK Summer Family Holiday with our 11 Year Old

Liked: We loved the site, which felt really quiet and rural, despite being close to York. We stayed for five mainly sunny days!

The ground was flat and pitches well laid-out, with a good mix of grass and hard-standing, and electric hooks-ups within very short distances from pitches.

The other facilities (water, wash-up, chemical toilet disposal, waste water) are all grouped together near the entrance/exit and all in really good order, and thoughtfully planned - simple but more than adequate for such a small site.

Showers/toilets/basins - all great. Felt very clean, and all were well-maintained throughout our stay. The showers felt particularly private as, whilst they were in the same room as the toilets, the layout meant each shower user had plenty of space. Key access only which also helped to feel secure.

The staff were exceptionally friendly, although to be fair, we really only booked in and out, and played a round of crazy golf, so we didn't have a great deal to do with them - but this was because the site was well-run and functional.

Would definitely recommend, although perhaps more to caravan users or tenters (see 'disliked' section for minor criticisms!)...

Disliked: Although the bus stop was approx the stated distance from the site, access was walking along the side (i.e. no pavement/path) of what turned out to be a fairly busy road, which was not lit at night. We spent a lot of money on cabs into and out of York (15 pounds each way), although we walked to the bus stop on a couple of occasions, and also stayed on the bus to nearby Strensall which has two great pubs, then got a cab back from there which was only about a fiver. You can get an all day bus ticket for under four pounds, and a family one for under ten pounds. I would suggest for the above reasons that the site is more suited to those with transport, rather than those relying on public/other transport.

Shelves in the shower cubicles would be a simple and very helpful addition - there was nowhere to put your shampoo etc and I imagine for those with mobility concerns, balancing in the shower and bending to the floor to pick up bottles would be a challenge - but this is a very personal and minor thing!!!

We were a little disappointed with the Kids Play Area, which didn't quite match up to the standard of the rest of the site. As the site is so remote, it would be fantastic to have a bit more for the kids to do - perhaps some swings or ropes etc.

But that's it - the positives FAR outweighed the negatives and the benefits of being able to spend some quality time in and around York and all it has to offer are great!

Great site. Easy access to city of York. Quiet location, clean facilities. Having a golf course and crazy golf meant children and adults have entertainment on their door step.

Liked: The location and that there were only a few tents.
The toilet and shower facilities were clean and well presented.
My children liked that there was a golf course on site. I had my first golfing experience - an event to be remembered!
It was nice to be left alone and not pestered by site staff as in some sites.
It was a very enjoyable stay with easy access to York.

Disliked: I didn't like having to use a key to access the toilet facilities.
Would have quite liked a little shop to purchase milk, bread etc. but we did use the farm shop just up the road.

Liked: Almost everything; check in was quick and easy, the site was quiet, the facilities really good and I loved the crazy golf. The site is a short drive from two lovely pubs, a great cafe and it is close to a park and ride for York; so great access. Everyone was polite and we didn't have any problems.

Disliked: The lack of lighting - it was quite tricky to find the tent at night but it was not a big issue.

Liked: First time campers.
Staff very courteous and helpful.
Great location, not too far from York centre, and central for other attractions.
Shops nearby at Monks Cross as well as P&R.

Level pitch and well maintained facilites made for a very enjoyable stay, looking forward to returning.

Disliked: Only very minor gripes, but 1-2 highchairs available in cafe, and some additions to the play area.

Liked: The owners responded to our booking request for a pitch near to the facilities as we we had our adult son with us who has a learning disiability.

The grass pitch was level with very good drainage.

Snacks available in the golf shop/cafe/reception area.

Disliked: Staff did not ask if " we had had a nice stay" or if "everything had been ok",when keys were returned. This would enhance customer service.

Liked: We have stayed at the site before a few years ago, and we decided to go again with friends. The site is very clean and secure. We would tell anyone wanting to visit York to stay at this site. We park on Monks Cross retail park, and catch the shuttle bus. Which takes you directly into the town centre. The staff are very friendly.

Disliked: Nothing
