Pamper your pooch with Crufts-inspired doggie-friendly holidays from £14 per night

Mar 18 2016 Posted by Jardine Howlett

It’s the 125th anniversary of Crufts this weekend, so if you’re feeling inspired by all the lovely doggies and want to pamper your pooch, check out these dog-friendly holidays from Pitchup.com.

Here are the site’s top picks for a paw-fect getaway!

Dogs go free in Devon...

For the ultimate in canine comfort Hedley Wood Camping and Caravanning Park  takes the prize.  Dogs go free and there is even a special dog exercise area, a mile long dog walk, kennelling facilities on site and plenty of yummy doggie treats on sale too.

Naturally this site has plenty to offer human visitors too.  Holidaymakers can enjoy the fabulous north Devon location, and can choose what kind of pitch they prefer - sea view or more sheltered.

It's a well-equipped site: aside from the normal facilities there are adventure playgrounds for both younger and older kids, plus a shop for vittles and other camping essentials. Foodwise, the shop provides a takeaway snack menu, or there’s homemade tucker served in the conservatory of the Woodman Bar (open throughout high season and at other busy times of year).  Pitches here start at £14 per night.

Poochie Paddles...

Does your pooch really enjoy the sea air?  In which case head to Penmarlam Caravan and Camping Park , on the Fowey Estuary in Cornwall. Generous pitches and ship shape facilities which include wifi, immaculate showers and award winning loos make this a great escape in the south west.  There's a welcoming foodie pub and a waterfront café just a stroll away too.

A nice touch is that travellers get to choose their preferred location on arrival, be it of wide open countryside or more sheltered and screened with shrubbery.  And for four legged friends that fancy taking to the waves, there's a slipway on site or they can hop aboard a ferry to Fowey.  Pitches start at £18 per night and the site opens at Easter.

Rover round the Cotswolds...

Head to Briarfields Touring Park where there are great transport links to Cheltenham - just two miles away - Oxford, and - for some great woodland walks - the Forest of Dean.  This site has been cleverly designed: though it has good motorway access it feels as though it's in the middle of the countryside with landscaped grounds, mature shrubs and trees.  And to make life even easier there are a couple of good pubs and restaurants less than 15 minutes' walk away.  Open year round, pitches start at £17 per night.

Posh Pets...

If only the best will do, treat your dog to a glamorous glamping holiday at Country View Cottages & Yurts near Perranporth, Cornwall. There are five stylish yurts, each of which sleeps up to four people and come complete with double bed, fresh cotton sheets, flatscreen TV, fridge, a private decked outside area with seating and oodles of rustic charm.  Onsite facilities include an outdoor heated swimming pool, playground and lovely communal kitchen and shower facilities. Prices start from £223 for four nights for one dog and two adults.
