York Food Festival
Where is it? York City Centre, York, North Yorkshire, YO23 1ND England
Hosted within beautiful historic venues such as the fifteenth century Guildhall, York's autumn foodie event promises a feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds.
There are markets, taste workshops and cookery demonstrations aplenty, plus some great evening events in the 'Fountain Café' marquee (complete with beer tent): authentic Nepalese Gurkha curry makers, choirs, live bands, gardeners, chutney makers and Salsa dancers will all be making an appearance over the ten days.
If you book early, you could find yourself dining with a Masterchef finalist in their own home, or taking supper with a nun in a convent, as part of the 'Dine at my table' programme; combining fine food with fine verse at a 'Rhyme and Dine' evening; or voting in the 'Yorkshire Vision Sausage Contest', a Eurovision spoof where the compere and guests debate (in dubious accents, natch) the merits of various bangers before selecting a noble winner!
The event has a serious side too, with talks on sustainable fishing and arable schemes to assist bio-diversity.
