Scarborough Cricket Festival
Where is it? Scarborough Cricket Club, North Marine Road, Scarborough, North Yorkshire, YO12 7TJ England
Come to 'Cricket-on-Sea' at Scarborough Cricket Club's historic North Marine Road ground, where a cricket festival has traditionally marked the end of the first-class season since 1876.
Many of the all-time greats have played this event, from golden oldies like W.G. Grace (who once scored 174 out of a team total of 263 there), Don Bradman and Fred Truman, to more recent cricketing heroes such as Darren Gough and Michael Vaughan. Not forgetting teams such as Michael Parkinson’s XI (Parky cites North Marine Road as one of his favourite grounds).
International touring sides also often make an appearance (previous years’ visitors have included Australia, South Africa, the West Indies, New Zealand, India and Pakistan).
The festival usually takes place over five days: there's a four day county championship match, plus a separate one day fixture. The event prides itself on its relaxed holiday feel, with a marquee and band music to entertain the crowds.
