'LIFF' has been going strong for 25 years now, attracting thousands of visitors with a quality programme of film, documentaries and innovative events. Along with the local cinemas, some of the biggest events take place in the beautifully ornate town hall, which is transformed into a giant cinema for the duration of the festival.
Fancy a 'Silent Clowns' night, with Paul Merton introducing hilarious clips from Harold Lloyd, Laurel and Hardy and other comedy greats from the silent movie era? Or, if you prefer a bit of gore, head to 'Night of the Dead', an all-night scarefest that forms part of the festival's 'Fanomenon' strand, which highlights the best in horror, sci-fi and thrillers.
There's stacks to choose from: an 'Official Selection' of new releases, interesting international discoveries and classics from the archives; a series of acclaimed documentaries on a specific set of themes; an experimental cinema strand; shorts screenings and competitions; and even a massive comic book convention (over 100 exhibitors, plus workshops and masterclasses).
Tickets for individual screenings start at £5, but there are various package deals and festival passes available too.
