Billingham International Folklore Festival
Where is it? Billingham Town Centre, Billingham, Cleveland, TS23 2LS England
Every year, more than 300 performers from around the world bring a riot of colour to Billingham for the town's festival of international dance, music and song.
The event opens with a 'parade of nations', where the performers show off their national costume, followed by a week-long programme of dance performances and concerts in park and theatre venues. On the final evening, there's a gala concert, closing ceremony and fireworks display.
As well as the live performances, there are exhibitions, workshops and classes, including dedicated sessions for children. Kick your heels at a Hungarian dancing workshop, have a go at playing the Andean panpipes, shake it at an Egyptian belly-dancing session, or stick a rose between your teeth and start strutting the tango!
Each morning of the festival, children aged 4 to 14 can join 'Uncle Biff's Festival Club', hosted at a local school, and enjoy dance, music, craft and games with the international performers.
Tickets start from a very reasonable £4.
