  • Grassy site on the banks of the Dordogne, 3km from Argentat
  • Fishing plus canoe and kayak rental all available
  • Spacious grounds with pool and playground
Right on the banks of the Dordogne and three kilometres from Argentat… settle yourself and the family at this Correze site for a week or three of kayaking, canoeing, fishing and town sightseeing. Or you could flow along to local waterfalls such as the Cascades de Murel within 20 minutes, or take a day trip to the very famed French destinations of Rocamadour, Gramat or the Gouffre de Padirac, all within an hour's drive: a week or three at this scenic spot probably essential… Camping Europe is a semi-shaded riverside site, comfy and well equipped with activities for all ages. When/if you've had enough of paddling down the river or fishing from its shores, there's an outdoor pool to lounge around at while the kids get stuck into their own antics at the playground. A site baker turns out tasty treats fresh every day for riverside picnics, and the site also has free wifi so you can read the papers online while working your way through the bread and pastry menu (a snack bar is available a little way along the river). A seasonal market runs weekly at Monceaux sur Dordogne, five minutes' drive away.

Local attractions

The old riverside town of Argentat, five minutes' drive away, is a highlight of this part of the Dordogne, with medieval houses leading down to the river, alongside swisher old piles like the 15th-century Manoir de l'Eyrial. Pick up a leaflet in the Argentat tourist office to point your curious self in an appropriate direction: a hugely recommended wander is along the riverbank to the cafés and river scenes of the 19th-century quai area. After that, cross the bridge to go back into town, stopping off at one of the restaurants for a waterside dinner. More watery days out are easily sorted via canoeing in the Dordogne gorges, accessible 20 minutes' drive away, or by taking a gabare (or traditional river boat) ride at Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne (also 20 minutes). Beaulieu's also well worth a day trip in itself, for yet more riverside walks and old houses as well as a handsome old centre around the village square and a lively market every Wednesday morning. Department capital Tulle, home to an international lace festival, the Museum of the Resistance and Deportation, and a medieval and riverside cathedral, is 35 minutes away.
