Retreat to Church Stretton Camp and Fish – an independently run campsite and fishery set in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – for quiet escapes on long woodland walks or countryside bike rides. Set on 40 acres of meadows, woodland, brooks and lakes, it’s 10 minutes’ drive from pubs, restaurants and shops in Church Stretton, and heather-covered hills in the Carding Mill Valley. And don’t forget the fishing. The site has three fishing lakes suitable for any level of skill, well-stocked with multiple varieties of carp of 20lbs and above, as well as sturgeon, bream, perch, roach, trout and gudgeon. The on-site shop sells camping and fishing essentials (including bait); you can also hire rods and tuition is subject to availability. Even if you’re not a mad-keen angler, there’s plenty to do on site. Other sporty amenities include a wild-swimming lake, where you can also kayak or paddleboard, as well as a rifle range (with rifle hire). And kids can whizz around on electric quad bikes (hire charges apply), or run off energy on the trampoline, swings and slides in the play area. Modern amenities include several shower and toilet blocks (please note there is no hot water on site, apart from in the showers), water points and washing facilities. There is also a communal area for charging your devices. The friendly site owners actively encourage open fires. Free firepits are provided and you can buy firewood at competitive prices (please do not bring your own wood onto the site).

Unpowered forest floor tent site (wild, woodland, small)

Liked: Nice environment, attentive staff and reasonable prices. Beautiful pitch and site. Super clean toilets. Church Stratton nearby to grab last minute bits.

Disliked: Bit boggy but that's to be expected with all the rain they've just had

Unpowered forest floor tent site (medium)

Liked: Everything!! What an unbelievable find, such an amazing place - opted for the forest floor camp and it truly felt like wild camping, spots are nicely spaced out and it feels super private and peaceful. Our particular area had a great view overlooking a field of horses but there are also spots tucked away deeper into the forest. The meadow and lakeside camp spots looked equally inviting and perfect for families. Facilities are great, the toilets are super clean, and showers nice and hot. Pitchup is full of a lot of the same campsites, plain grass fields with little to no amenities and activities for around £80 a night, so to find somewhere this incredible with the option to swim, fish, quad bike, and a rifle range, for how affordable it is, is really remarkable. The owners should feel such pride for the incredible space they have made available for people - they are also super friendly! Miraculously even helped us out with a tent when we had forgotten the inner part of our own and saved us a 4 hour round trip to retrieve it lol. The location is great and easy to find, and the local town is only 10 min drive away if you need to do a food shop/want some fish and chips :) but when you are back at the campsite you feel far away from everything which is perfect. My boyfriend and I were already talking about our next visit on the car journey home and can’t wait to take our friends and family. My one wish is that I had found this place sooner in the year! But our stay was faultless and a beautiful way to see out the end of summer. Couldn’t recommend more :)

Unpowered forest floor tent site (wild, woodland, small)

Liked: Found this spot in 2017 and come back every year it's a Lovely peaceful spot basic but beautiful and has toilets and showers.. Camp by the lake or in the woods with a fire.. if its clear in the day the views are absolutely stunning and if its a clear at night the amount of stars is just breathtaking so take a recliner chair light a fire and just gaze at the stars.. If you need to get away and just chill or a spot of fishing this is the place love it here. I will be back!!!

Disliked: The road leading to the parking needs attention as there are many potholes .. Also the 24hr fishing needs a price decrease as £50 is a bit steep.

From the manager: Cheers for the review, glad you enjoyed it here. Just for the record, 24hour fishing is £25, not £50.
