General

  • Adults-only site in a secluded hill setting
  • Small, peaceful and easily accessible from Craven Arms
  • In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Perhaps you’re a put-upon parent. Or an anguished auntie. Or one of those people who are scared of kids (well, they do ask such peculiar questions and also loudly point out one’s apparent weirdness in public). Or perhaps you are fond of small people but only in small doses. Whichever category you fall into, if you’re looking for an adults-only space for your hols, Greenway Touring Site should fit the bill.

(And if the thought of other humans is making you shudder, Greenway is in the Corvedale hills in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with miles of solitary walks and sightseeing in all directions.)

The park is small, friendly and peaceful but is easily accessed a couple of miles along the B4368 from Craven Arms, is nine miles from historic Ludlow and is within reach of the Welsh border for days’ worth of grown-up sightseeing and shopping. It's well landscaped and on a gentle slope.

Craven canine company? Dogs are welcome.

Please note

This is an adults-only site. Children under the age of 18 are not allowed on site.

If using a satnav to find us, you may be directed down a small lane that is not suitable for motorhomes or caravans. Please follow the directions stated on our Pitchup.com listing and your booking confirmation email.

Well manicured grass, neat hard standings, peaceful location, friendly staff. Commitment to sustainable camping is evident and welcome.

    Disliked:

Showers need better doors to cut down draughts. The how to get there instructions printed from the web site are wrong. The site is not 100M up from the road junction at Craven Arms but 1,8 miles further up the road.

From the manager...

The showers do look a bit odd and have greater airflow than normal as we removed the top panels during the hot weather as the thin plastic vents were not letting enough air in to cool them down.
We do have windows to replace these panels and are waiting to have them fitted.
We will look at the wording on the directions but they do say we are 1.8 miles from Craven Arms.
The 100m refers to the lane that is up the side of the site which is not caravan or motorhome friendly.
We do provide coloured trugs to encourage guests to recycle glass, plastic, tins, paper and cardboard and dark green bins for food waste.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

Chimeneas are outside all the pods and we have a few that we can lend out to touring pitches to provide a fantastic focal point and warmth on these nights that are closing in,
Ludlow food festival is always a great thing to visit. They also do a Medieval Christmas Fayre in November.
Thank you for your review , we are glad you enjoyed your stay.

The whole place- very spacious and very well organised. It was a busy weekend with the Ludlow food festival on just down the road, and when I booked it suggested there were only a few pitches left so I was expecting it to be cramped. However, the owners leave lots of space and the campsite felt very peaceful and relaxed.

They were also kind enough to lend us a chimenea, which they delivered to the pitch, and sell large bags of fuel for £4.00- which lasted 2 nights with more to spare

    Disliked:

From the manager...

.We do try to provide space for guests and have placed our pitches to provide this. We do have flexibility to move pitches for larger units or facilitate small family groups (no under 18s though) and preserve the grass between uses.
We are glad you liked the set up and hope to see you again.

Greenway was a very nice and clean park and there was plenty of room to pitch our tent. Brian was very helpful and even had fire pits to rent and would bring them to you in his car with a paving slab to protect the grass. Everyone around the site were very friendly. There is plenty of information about things to do or places to go in the information hut on site. We will certainly be coming again and would recommend it to all

    Disliked:

Could do with a few more toilets and showers, but we coped fine

From the manager...

We do technically have more toilet and showers than are needed for a site our size but as planning permission is needed before we can add more are looking into putting a planning application together to enable us to do so.
We do try to protect the grass as guests like to come to a nice green site even though despite our efforts we still end up with brown rings from pots and pans being placed directly on the grass instead of the hot pot stands available.
We try to be flexible with our pitches so that guests can take advantage of the views on offer.
Thank you for your review.

We are a quiet and peaceful site with noise kept to a minimum after 11pm (although it is often quieter before this) out of consideration to other guests and neighbours
We try to ensure that the site is kept clean and tidy to ensure guests can enjoy their breaks.

Loved the rural location, however not too far from major routes.
Staying at the adults only site was a bonus.
So relaxing and great for exploring others parts of Shropshire.
Really recommend the pods as there is a kettle, small fridge and the sofa bed.
Was not expecting the crockery and cutlery extras as we took our own, great if you just want to rock up without having to bring all the usual camping equipment.
We took our camping stoves and cooked on the patio outside the pod.
Great communal washing up area and warm showers.
    Loved it.

    Disliked:

From the manager...

Thank you.
The pods are equipped with the basic requirements for a night or more away.
Lots of guests enjoy sitting round the chimeneas in the evenings. The chimeneas are ideal for BBQs or fry ups and provide a focal point as well as heat.
Single gas ring cookers can also fit in the chimenea protecting your flame on slightly breezier days.

Bit isolated... Had to drive to nearby town for pub or provisions

From the manager...

We are a rural site but are only 1.8 miles by road from Craven Arms itself with a big independent supermarket - Tuffins, bakers, butchers, cafes, bookshop, mainline rail station, 2 pubs. In the other direction there are 3 pubs within 5 miles.

We are an ideal base for just relaxing or sightseeing Shropshire by foot, car or bike.

Great base for the local area, well maintained site, free loan of chiminea, firewood available to buy, great information hut with walks and bike riding routes, good washing up facilities.

    Disliked:

Road noise, not a great view from our pitch (electric grass)

From the manager...

At this time of year the hedges and trees are higher than we would ideally like and can obscure the view from some pitches. As they are joint hedges bordering farm land they are not allowed to be cut back until the 1st September (DEFRA).
There can be extra traffic on the B4368 particularly at night when there are night closures on the A49 and at the moment Severn Trent are replacing pipes and have closed a busy "cut through" road thereby increasing traffic on the B4368.

Brian welcomed us and gave us a choice of pitches for our tent. We settled on a spot by a clump of conifers that had a lovely view over the hills. We loved absolutely everything about this site! The showers and toilets were very clean and well thought out. The owners were very helpful and friendly. We are looking forward to visiting this site again soon.

From the manager...

We always try to give our guests a choice of pitch but obviously on really busy weekends and August we have to be more strategic with the pitch arrangements.

Directions

Please take care if using a satnav as it may try to take down a narrow lane beside the site that is not caravan or motorhome friendly. The site entrance is directly off the B4368, 100 metres to the west shared with Upper Dichope Farm.

From Craven Arms: travel east along the B4368 for 1.8 miles, and the entrance is on the left at the centre of the wide grass verge.

From Ludlow: travel north along the A49 to Craven Arms, turning right at the second island by the estate agents.

From Shrewsbury, travel south.

The nearest bus and train stations are at Craven Arms.

Local attractions

Fans of history of all sorts will be in heaven here: Stokesay and Ludlow Castle are both nearby and the famous Ironbridge Gorge set of museums are within half an hour’s drive.

Craven Arms is the starting point for all sorts of Shropshire sightseeing, but stick around the town for a bit first to take in both modern history and popular culture at the Land of Lost Content, the world’s biggest archive of pop culture items from the twentieth century. Perhaps that’s where your Rubix Cube went…

Craven Arms is also home to the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre for virtual balloon rides over the hills, mammoth-meeting and all sorts of info on the history of the hills. A famous local landmark, Flounders Folly, is just north of the town.

The 30 acres of the Onny Meadows start just outside the discovery centre with waymarked walking and bike trails including the Shropshire Way. Mountain biker? Head for Hopton Wood, the main mountain biking centre in Shropshire with three downhill trails and a warm-up loop.

There are gardens, a limestone quarry and a trout fishery in the grounds of Delbury Hall, just outside Craven Arms between Much Wenlock and Ludlow, with heaps more history in nearby Shrewsbury. The National Trust’s eighteenth-century mansion and deer park Attingham Park is here, as is the Norman Shrewsbury Castle with the Shropshire Regimental Museum. Plus over 600 listed buildings, medieval cobbled streets, and one of the tallest church spires in the country…

The market town of Ludlow in the Welsh Marches is another historic spot to spend a day or two, with a side trip to Ludlow Racecourse almost a must: well, horse racing is the ancient sport of kings. There are traditional, farmers’ and flea markets in Ludlow for further lightening of the wallet.

And then north to Church Stretton…stop off at the Acton Scott Estate with its historic working farm to see how farmers did it in yesteryear, try the archery for which the town is famous, or take off from the high hills of Long Mynd for hang gliding, gliding and paragliding; one of the highest golf courses in the country is here too.
