  • Spacious semi-rural site 10 minutes' drive from Mansfield
  • Less than half an hour's drive from Sherwood Forest and Clumber Park
  • Well-stocked carp fishing lake next to the site
A packing list for folk heading to Tall Trees Touring Park: comfy shoes, fishing kit, bus pass, kids, dogs (these last two only if you already have them – no need to acquire them specially). This family-friendly and dog-welcoming park is in a semi-rural spot a 10-minute drive from the centre of Mansfield, ticking holiday boxes for easy access to both urban amenities and fresh-air attractions. The comfy shoes and/or bus pass are useful things to have with you as there’s a bus stop just outside the park for forays into town, and lots of useful bits and bobs within walking distance (a family-friendly pub, fast food outlets, supermarket and indoor play centre among them). Those shoes may well also come in handy for lengthy rural rambles in the local area: around Sherwood Forest or Clumber Park, perhaps, or taking in the historic buildings of Hardwick Hall or Newstead Abbey. And the fishing kit? That’s for those who fancy heading to the lake just by the park for some quiet time gazing out over the Maun Valley Nature Reserve and (hopefully) catching some carp. Facilities on site include a playground to keep the kids amused (and/or tire them out), a small library, tourist information point and well-kept toilet block with accessible facilities and baby changing.

Liked: Quiet during the night despite it being busy. Facilities were more than adequate as it seemed that most had their own. Short walk to Large Asda and a pub. 2 mile walk to Mansfield town centre

Power optional grass site

Liked: upon arrival we were greeted by the warden on his little tractor.he parked our twin axle on our grass pitch , due to all the rain we have had recently. the site was clean and tidy and the toilet block and shower was clean and always warm inside. the waste water and toilet waste facilities were good too. As previous reviews have mentioned the first speed ramp is a little too high, although it didn't catch my jockey wheel or underside of our van. good pub 5 mins walk (foxglove) oppersite Asda. we will use this site again in the future

From the manager: Thank you for your insights, however, on your arrival you only waited a maximum of 15 mins as that is how long the office was unmanned whilst we were dealing with something else on site, whenever the office is closed, there is a mobile number displayed on the door for customers to contact, i had no phone calls from you, despite your insistence that you had rung several times. The area you were on when shouted at to come off, was clearly roped off due to being waterlogged and you were issued an apology which you were happy to accept at the time. As stated in the site rules, Fires are Not allowed, you were given 2 hours between me first speaking to you regarding this, to me actually insisting you put the fire out, if 2 hours is not long enough for you to prepare something to eat on a fire pit, then for your future trips i would recommend looking up local takeaways. May i also be so bold as to suggest changing your brand of rolling tobacco as the pungent smell from your chosen brand may cause you problems should you be pulled over at any time. I would also like to say thank you for giving your 6 year old child the freedom to wonder aimlessly around the site and fishing lake unsupervised, its so nice to see parents giving children room to grow.

Power optional grass site

Liked: Excellent site overall very clean and well kept lovely park for my daughter to play. great toilets/shower facilities and easy waste disposal areas. We enjoyed a walk to the local soft play jangos and then a pub lunch and drinks in the foxglove.

Disliked: My only minor gripe as mentioned in previous reviews is the speed bumps as my car sits really low it was almost impossible to get over them without scraping the underside of my vehicle.

Power optional grass site

Liked: Great park, well.maintained site. Friendly wardens

Disliked: Speed bumps on the access too big. The car bottomed out and so did the caravan even at a snails pace. Would stay again if access sorted.

Local attractions

Take a spot at Tall Trees for all sorts of leisurely local walks: stride around Robin Hood’s old stomping ground, 450-acre Sherwood Forest, or take in one of the trails through the woods and around the lake at National Trust-owned Clumber Park (bike hire can be had here if you prefer to pedal). Both are less than half an hour’s drive from the park. Creswell Crags, 20 minutes’ drive away, is an enclosed limestone gorge and cave system that’s home to the UK’s only known Ice Age cave art. There’s a great museum here, and rock art cave tours can be had in the spring and summer months. If it’s historic buildings you’re after, head to 16th-century Hardwick Hall, or to medieval Newstead Abbey (home to a collection of objects belonging to former resident Lord Byron). Rufford Abbey Country Park is a good place for woodland walks around the abbey ruins.
