  • Peaceful RV park off the Interstate 65 south of Montgomery
  • 20 minutes' drive to Montgomery's zoo and civil rights museums
  • Large and well-maintained pitches with picnic table and fire ring
Settle in for a stay at Montgomery South RV Park and prepare to be served up a hefty slice of good ol’ Southern hospitality... after driving there can be few recuperating spots finer than the rocking chairs out on the porch, where you can recline and survey your new place as you’re served up a complimentary cup of tea or coffee. Whether you’re heading south to the Florida beaches or aiming north enroute to the Great Smoky Mountains, this is a mighty fine place for a night or few, just off the Interstate 65 south of Montgomery. Not only will you get a handy place for a rest but you’ll also be able to pick the brains of owner and adventurer Jim, who’s bursting with savvy tips for local hotspots and all the essential info for the top picks as you travel – restaurants, beaches and dive spots all among them. This is a peaceful place with clean, well-sized pitches and where horses roam in the surrounding fields. Make the most of the rural vibe by eating at your own picnic table or lighting up the fire ring to keep you warm and toasty; for supplies and eating out, Montgomery 20 minutes' drive away has plenty of shops and supermarkets as well as restaurants specialising in southern cuisine such as black-eyed pea soup, chicken fried steak and cornbread. All the mod cons you’d hope for from a pitstop are here too: a TV room, a laundry room, free wifi access and private bathrooms with showers. Not to mention an office full of useful maps and info to help you plot your next move (which may just involve sticking around a little longer).

Local attractions

Montgomery was a crucial place in the development of the civil rights movement – both Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks lived and worked here, and the downtown area now has museums and monuments dedicated to the movement. Highlights include he Civil Rights Memorial Center, Martin Luther King’s former home and the Rosa Parks Library and Museum with a replica of the bus in which she made her famed stand. Also up in town are the Museum of Fine Arts and the Hank Williams Museum, dedicated to the country music star. It’s also worth heading over to Old Alabama Town, a living museum spread across several 19th and 20th-century houses, buildings and streets to see how locals lived in the past. If you’d like to explore the outdoors, stretch your legs on the Lagoon Park Trail, half an hour from the campground, or drive up to Wetumpka, 40 minutes away, to hire canoes, kayaks or paddleboards for adventures on the Coosa river.
