  • Rural family-friendly site in a secluded setting
  • Bar-restaurant with terrace seating 200 guests
  • Three kilometres from the Basque coast and 20 from San Sebastián
Just a few kilometres from Spain's northern coast and in a peaceful rural location lies Camping Zingira, a family-run site in Spain's smallest province of Gipuzkoa. This is a restful stopoff if you're travelling onto San Sebastián (20 kilometres) or Bilbao (90 kilometres), or a serene base if you want to have a Spanish stay near some spectacular beaches deep in traditional Basque Country: Gipuzkoa has 17 beaches and about half the population of the region speaks Basque. The sands and mountains of the Basque coastline can easily be explored by foot, bike or car from here. Zingira is a secluded site, surrounded by beech forest a short drive from Pagoeta Natural Park. It has spacious grass pitches and shared amenities including a shower and toilet block. The fishing village of Lasarte-Oria is three kilometres away. The centrepiece of Camping Zingira is its fine restaurant, open all day, where you can have meals and drinks indoors or out on the handsome terrace taking in the clear forest air. And to keep the kids nicely occupied while you await your aperitif? A play area is at the restaurant too.

Local attractions

The closest of the Gipuzkoa province's 17 clean and mainly urban beaches are Zarautz (eight kilometres) and La Concha (10 kilometres), which are also the two most popular (La Concha or, in Basque, Kontxa Hondartza, is a particularly famed urban European beach). Other excellent day trip options are the beaches of Hondarribia and Saturrarán, within 40 to 50 minutes' drive, and snapping pics of the cliffs between Zumaia and Deba, to the north-east along the coast. If you hanker after Gipuzkoa’s mountains as well as its beaches and coastal towns, go and see Mount Jaizkibel 42 kilometres away, or the peaks of the Aralar Natural Park, on the border of Gipuzkoa and Navarre in the Aralar Range. For urban sightseeing, there's the Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum in Getaria, the big staircase in Mutriku's Nuestra Señora de la Asunción Church, and of course spectacular San Sebastián, for its aquarium, Old Town and parks, and pintxos in the many local bars (the town has the highest concentration of bars in the world). Walking trails and guided tours are available in Pagoeta Natural Park, half an hour's drive away.
