  • A 10-kilometre drive from spectacular Salamanca
  • Pool, Jacuzzi and wifi
  • Snack bar and barbecues on site
A warm and friendly vibe awaits at the Castile and Leon site of Camping La Capea – which will be mighty welcome if you're staying here as part of a mighty hike along the famed Via de La Plata or silver route, the longest pilgrimage path in Spain. This peaceful place is 10 minutes' drive (or about an hour and half's wander, if you'd rather) from the handsome city of Salamanca, spectacularly set on several hills by the Tormes river. It's also be a kilometre or so from the shops and restaurants of Aldeaseca de Armuña, and among the scenic La Armuña region, known throughout Spain for its traditional architecture. The spectacular woodland trail of the Camino del Agua is within an hour's drive. Hiking and biking is close by on several local trails, but if you seek solace after tramping the pilgrimage route or tackling the valleys of the Sierra de Gredos, leisurely pursuits are easy to sort here too: sink into the pool for a gentle swim or a lazy float, or stroll along to the Jacuzzi to let the bubble soothe sore muscles or any stresses (please note that an extra charge applies). As dusk falls, dry your now relaxed self off and prepare for a peaceful evening at the site bar-restaurant overlooking the pool, where you can settle down with your beverage of choice with which to wash down several local foodie specialities.

Local attractions

Spectacular and lively Salamanca is famed throughout Spain – and beyond – for its ancient architecture and hillside setting, high above the Tormes river. There's loads to see in the city, but the Camping La Capea team particularly recommends the Catedral Nueva and the Dominican monastery Convento de San Esteban, as well as the world-famed Universidad Civil, the Salamanca university founded in 1218 (it's the oldest university in Spain and the fourth oldest Western university in the world). Another must is the Casa Lis Art Nouveau and Art Deco Museum, home to an extensive collection of sculpture, paintings, art deco and art nouveau pieces, set in a beaut and bright Catalan art nouveau house. There's also the Plaza Mayor or main square, built between 1729 and 1755 and now with the accolade of the most spectacular plaza in all of Spain: potter along and see if you agree. Fab views can be had along the Via de la Plata, Spain's longest pilgrim route, starting from Seville in Andalucia and running northwards through the provinces of Extremadura and Castille and Leon to join with the Camino de Santiago.
