Beach buffs of the world, don thy swimming kit and prepare for some serious lounging. You could barely be any closer to the beach than at Strandpark Vlugtenburg, a family site that’s separated from the North Sea only by a great swathe of sandy beach and dunes. Look north from this spot on the outskirts of the small town of 's Gravenzande and you’ll see the beach stretching away in front of you for several kilometres. 10 minutes’ drive to the south is the port of Hook of Holland, making this a mighty handy first stopping point if you’ve just arrived on the ferry from Harwich. With The Hague, Delft and Rotterdam all around half an hour’s drive away, it’s also a good spot to park yourself for several days to combine a bit of city culture with some beach action. When they’re not occupied with splashing in the sea or building sandcastles, kids can spend time at the playground, play games with friends on the panna soccer field or join in with the various activities organised for them on site in high season. There’s also an indoor games room, and board games can be borrowed from reception. Very fably, the site has its own pancake café, overlooking the dunes and the playground. (Resistance to these local treats is futile, so give in and take your pick from the menu of sweet and savoury options.) Two restaurants are a couple of minutes’ walk away, on the beach.

Liked: The beachside location and being convenient for the ferry terminal at Hoek van Holland. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, full marks on that count!

Disliked: No soap or hand-drying facilities in the wash area adjacent to the toliets. Very poor. Especially as this site costs 25 Euros per night, even for me with a two-man tent and a motorcycle.

Liked: Nice quiet touring pitch. Toilets spotless although toilet seperate to sinks/showers so had to use toilet go seperate building to wash hands Nice walks 5 mins to beach and safe

Disliked: No hard standing..pitch very mucky so we're sinking in grass

Liked: Clean toilets/shower, good amenities, flexible check-in, staff are responsive, strong wifi. Staff has given us some free monies as the link for online payment was quite faulty. Would’ve been a perfect stay for us had it not rained the first night which was out of anyone’s control. Overall nice place to pitch a tent, definitely during summers.

Local attractions

The beach is a major attraction here; aside from all your usual sea- and sand-based fun, you can also sign up for a range of activities including horse riding, land yachting, kitesurfing and paddleboarding, or try your luck with a fishing rod. A good way to get around and see some of the area’s beaches and other natural areas is to make like a local and get on your bike. Site staff can suggest routes, including cycling through the dunes to Kijkduin, heading to the Staelduinse Forest or taking the ferry to Maasvlakte to go seal spotting. For a kid-friendly day out, it’s half an hour’s drive to Rotterdam Zoo, where you can see lions, polar bears and monkeys among others. Aquatic animal life is on display at Sea Life Scheveningen, a 40-minute drive from the site. Also worth a day trip is the town of Delft, half an hour away, to shop for the famed blue and white porcelain, visit the old and new churches and see the Vermeer Centre, where the artist lived.

Admission

All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.
