  • Seaside site with its own private beach on the Genoan coast
  • Among eight hectares of Med vegetation, 10 minutes' drive from Alassio
  • Restaurant, pizzeria, bar, mini market and playground
Can you contemplate hanging out at the terrace you see just above this text? With perhaps a cocktail or three, a suitably trashy tome and the knowledge that if you ever do stir towards the sands, a pretty – and private – beach is a mere 50-metre amble away? Of course you can, for what a jolly sensible Italian holiday option this is. 'Sunbathing and cocktails on the Italian Riviera, actually,' is your phrase of choice when describing your upcoming vacance to Campeggio Monti e Mare. And do throw in that your highly scenic boozy spot is steps from the private sands of Baba beach, a spectacular and swish four-kilometre stretch that runs along to the fab little seaside town of Laigueglia. Your particular part of the Riviera is 10 minutes' drive from the lively coastal town of Alassio, in the Savona province on Liguri's western coast, and close to weeks' worth of canoeing, windsurfing, shipwreck diving, horse riding and mountain biking. The site is set in eight hectares of dense Mediterranean vegetation, to provide shade along with its smashing sea views. You can get stuck into those cocktails from the terrace overlooking the sea, hang out on sun loungers to work on your Italian Riviera tan, or bounce a ball around the tennis, football or basketball areas while the kids make merry at the playground. Alassio has museums, art galleries and heaps of handsome eateries and bars; another option for eats is at the acclaimed Baba beach restaurant just along the sands, or you could stay on site for an evening at the restaurant or a disc-shaped dinner from the Monti e Mare pizzeria.

Local attractions

Stay around the sands and waters of spectacular Baba beach first, as you'll have plenty to pick from in and out of the sea, from beach basking and swimming to windsurfing and sailing. Divers should take a trip to the nearby island of Gallinara and to the marine park around the isle of Bergeggi, for famed delves into the deep among the Ligurian coast's black coral and ancient shipwrecks. If you're fully skilled/curious, take the Blue Trail covering Bergeggi, Moneglia, Levanto, Spotorno, Santa Margherita Ligure, Chiavari, Santo Stefano al Mare and Finale Ligure. Diving centres and instructors are available around the coast. It's about seven kilometres from your beachfront site to the seaside resort of Alassio, an old settlement where attractions include Roman roads and archaeological walks, medieval churches, and two galleries showcasing the paintings of Carlo Levi and Richard Whateley West. (Ice cream parlours, restaurants, bars, nightlife and summer festivals are in town too if your tastes are more modern).
