  • Super friendly site near Rechenberg-Bienenmühle in the Ore Mountains
  • Within easy reach of skiing trails, museums and a natural bathing pool
  • Utterly spectacular mountain views and heaps of space to pitch
Erzgebirgscamp Neuclausnitz is a handsomely lofty site set among the Ore Mountains, right on the tree-lined tourist route of German Avenue Road, which runs all the way from the Baltic Sea and lovely Lake Constance. The area is niftily networked by heaps of hiking and cross-country skiing trails and, also splendidly, the site’s handy location alongside the Kammweg Erzgebirge-Vogtland and the Muldental cycle paths means it’s in prime pedalling territory too. This main attractions at Neuclausnitz are its verily viewsome locale, peaceful vibe and super friendly owner – during days on site, there’s plenty of scenery gazing to keep grownup guests entertained, and kids can keep themselves amply amused with a swing and a slide around the site’s roomy playground too. For eats, the site has a little café where you can order bread and rolls for breakfast, which should set you up splendidly for days out and about hiking, cycling and sightseeing. Barbecues are allowed too, so when you return in the evening chuck some chicken on the grill, crack open a beverage and settle back to survey your smashing surrounds. And if you fancy yourself as an astronomer, the stargazing will be pretty stellar around here too. Pitches are grassy and surrounded by trees and a greenly scenic mountainscape beyond and, renovated in 2016, the sanitary facilities are swish, modern and well-maintained, consisting of toilets, washbasins and hot showers, as well as an outdoor washing-up area. A free wifi service is available too – handy for sharing all your snaps of the beaut scenery that's around. The park's amenable owner welcomes lone riders and groups of motorcyclists, and pet pooches are allowed on site too.

Local attractions

This area’s landscape is covered by cycling trails and more than 30 kilometres of waymarked walking routes and nature trails, and thus has walking tours galore, such as those along the crest path and the historical hiking trail between Rechenberg-Bienenmühle – half an hour’s riverside amble away – and Mariánské Radčice, passing Fláje Reservoir on the way. Also in nearby Rechenberg-Bienenmühle, treat yourself to a dip in its eco baths – a natural outdoor pool whose waters remain chlorine free and are instead splendidly treated in an eco-friendly fashion by plants, plankton and other entirely natural means, making this pool a fab place for wee peeps and sensitive souls to come for a dunk. If you’re after a culture trip, head to the glass museum around eight kilometres away at Purschenstein Castle in Neuhausen/Erzgeb to see sparkling artefacts dating back to the 13th century; while you’re in the area, a sweep of the exhibits at the nearby Nussknackermuseum is highly recommended too: dedicated to this Christmassy uniformed doll, the museum’s shop is a tiptop spot for procuring souvenirs.
