  • Friendly site with views of the Grande Tête de l'Obiou mountain
  • A 15-kilometre drive from Laffrey lake and an hour from Grenoble
  • Outdoor pool and hot tub in spectacular mountain surroundings
That's not just a lush outdoor pool at Camping Le Champ Long in the Rhône Alpes… it's a lush outdoor pool in the spectacular mountain surrounds of the French Prealps. Have dips in this setting facing the mighty Grande Tête de l'Obiou, the highest peak in the Dévoluy Mountains and the Dauphiné Prealps; fittingly for more view gazing, a hot tub is on site too. Because of its mountain setting, Le Champ Long is used as a base for many an outdoor day, like climbing and horse riding among the peaks or in the Écrins National Park, 11 kilometres away. Laffrey lake within 15 kilometres has swimming, surfing, canoeing, kayaking and fishing to keep you busy too. About an hour and 15 minutes away are the mountain pasture ski slopes and famed Tour De France ascent of Alpe d'Huez; the popular 'Capital of the Alps' Grenoble can be reached in 55 kilometres. Lots of lounging about among this scenery should be scheduled into any stay at this roomy family-friendly site: after sessions in the pool and the hot tub, you can while away the evenings at the terrace bar with summer entertainment, or venture indoors to the TV lounge or games room. A playground and pétanque court are also on site.

Local attractions

Camping Le Champ Long is on the edge of the Écrins National Park, covering the mountains of the Dauphiné Alps south of Grenoble. As you'd imagine, mountainous activities like climbing, hiking and skiing are the order of the day here, among the park's peaks, pastures, valleys and lakes. Bordering the national park, the 2,790-metre high Grande Tête de l'Obiou can be accessed within 30 kilometres, most easily from the hut at Baumes through the Faïsses and Obiou passes. Skiing is of course also a top pastime of these parts, at the Alps capital Grenoble and other well-known slopes like Alpe d'Huez and the Tour De France descent, 61 kilometres away, and Les Deux Alpes, at 69. Grenoble is also home to a Bastille fortress and the popular 'bubble' cable cars, from which you'll be able to snap spectacular shots of the surrounding mountains. The old market town of Mens is 27 kilometres away if you want a bit more history, or there's the Museum of the French Revolution, parkland and gardens of the cracking Château de Vizille, 34 kilometres away. Route Napoléon, running from Grenoble to Cannes on the French Riviera, is a top pick for a scenic drive.
