  • Family-friendly site 10 minutes' drive from Mediterranean beaches
  • Haven for hikers: 15 mins from Catalan Pyrénées Regional Natural Park
  • Within easy reach of Perpignan
Are you more into mountains or seashores? Hiking gravel paths or lying on sandy beaches? At Camping Cap Sud, four kilometres from the town of Saint-Cyprien in the Languedoc-Rousillon region of the south of France, you get both. Camping Cap Sud is a 10-minute drive from the Mediterranean beaches of Saint-Cyprien and 15 minutes from the town of Argelès sur Mer at the edge of the Catalan Pyrénées Regional Natural Park. Follow the trails winding through the mountains on foot, bike, horseback or even snowshoe, or simply unwind at the beach – it all depends on your mood. If you’d prefer to stay at home base, there’s plenty to keep you entertained: young kids can join in treasure hunts, makeup classes and painting programmes, and you can all have a go at pétanque, ping pong, billiards or table football before cooling off with a dip in the pool or relaxing in the sun loungers with a book. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, the on-site snack bar will beckon, or you can head to the authentic Catalan village of Alénya, a 10-minute walk from Cap Sud, to pick up supplies to cook over the barbecue or pull up a chair at one of the restaurants.

Local attractions

Watersports enthusiasts will be well-served by a stay at Camping Cap Sud: take to the Mediterranean for scuba diving, canoeing, rafting, kite-surfing, wind-surfing and paddleboarding, all within 20 minutes’ drive of the site. Back on solid ground, sally forth into the Catalan Pyrénées to explore stunning villages and churches, visit Mont-Louis Citadel and experience the might of the solar furnace. To see more of the park, climb aboard the Yellow Train at Villefranche-de-Conflent for a round trip through the Têt Valley and Cerdagne plateau. This part of France has a rich history that you can dive right into. Visit the Maternité Suisse to learn about the Catalan and Spanish refugee crisis of the 1940s, find out about the Homme de Tautavel at the Museum of Prehistory, or get a taste of more than just history with a wine tasting at the 12th-century Château de Corneilla del Vercol. A day trip to the nearby city of Perpignan, 10 minutes from Cap Sud, is a must: head to the 13th-century Palace of the Kings of Mallorca, visit the Perpignan Cathedral, or wander the streets and traditional markets. Time your visit right and you can see the weekly street performances that take place during the high season every year. If the kids are starting to get bored of exploration, bring them to play in the treetops at Paradise Aventure or to make a splash at Aqualand Saint-Cyprien, both within 15 minutes of the site.
