  • Beachfront site on a small farm 15 minutes' cycle from Faaborg
  • Spectacular views towards Lyø, Ærø and Als
  • Pony rides, trampoline, pedal cars and jetties for swimming or boating
Fancy a farm stay for your hols? Or maybe you’d prefer a seaside sojourn? Have both rolled into one neat package at family-friendly Sinebjerg Camping, a sea-view site set up around an old farmhouse 10 minutes’ drive from the fab little town of Faaborg. Coast and countryside antics are right on site here – greet the resident dwarf goats and rabbits and take a ride on one of the friendly ponies before opening the gate and strolling out onto the sands. Yes indeed, this place has direct access to the beach, with plenty of space for sandcastle construction, a jetty for swimmers and another (kitted out with winch and slipway) for those who’ve brought along a boat. Fishing’s a popular pastime here too; if you get lucky, cart your catch over to the cleaning area to prep for cooking (which you can do over a barbecue or campfire, or in the camp kitchen). For a more reliable way to acquire food, there’s a little self-service shop on site and plenty of supermarkets, bakeries and restaurants a 15-minute cycle ride away in town. Back at base, there’s a goodly swathe of space in which to kick back and gaze out over the views towards the island of Lyø, or play a game of pétanque while the nippers avail themselves of the playground, trampoline, bouncy castle and pedal cars.

Local attractions

Forests, lakes and a fair amount of flat terrain make this part of South Funen a smashing one for cycling or walking: a couple of kilometres away is the pretty fishing village of Dyreborg, or you could bike for half an hour to the birdwatchers’ haven at Bøjden Nor. Heaps more ideas are collected together in folders of recommended routes for your browsing pleasure on site, including the walk through the woods down to Faaborg fjord. Close to Faaborg are riding centres where you can saddle up Icelandic horses; there’s also a rather scenic golf club a 10-minute drive away, and a smart harbour facility in town where you can hire kayaks or take a swim before warming up in the sauna. It’s worth taking a wander around Faaborg too – the town is full of historic buildings, including old watermills, the medieval West Gate and a church dating back to 1250. Arty types will want to visit the excellent collection in the Faaborg Museum too; outdoorsy types might prefer a boat trip to the islands of Lyø or Avernakø. Half an hour away by car is the Renaissance Egeskov Castle, like a fairytale picture with a moat, spires and elegant furnishings. You can also see the world’s biggest dolls’ house, stroll through the gorgeous gardens and clamber into the trees at the play forest.
