Are you dreaming of sun, sea and sand? At Råbjerg Mile Camping, a family-friendly site 15 minutes’ drive from the town of Skagen in North Jutland, two of them are all but guaranteed. You can’t stay at Råbjerg Mile Camping and not pay a visit to Råbjerg Mile. Venture out into the sands, less than 10 minutes’ drive from the site, to see if you can spot the tower of the buried church of Skagen and hike to the top of the dune for spectacular views of the area. Hire a bike or a dune buggy on site and follow one of the trails laid out by the team – head to the west coast for broad sandy beaches or to the east coast for amber hunting and views over Ålbæk Bay. If all that sounds like too much, you can also kick back on site: play a round of miniature golf, go game-set-match on the tennis court and rack up the points in pétanque, or go the less active route by relaxing in the hot tub or sauna and cooling off with a dip in one of the two pools. Wander the aisles of the on-site shop for the things you inevitably forgot to pack and supplies to cook up for meals – there’s a large shared kitchen for guests to use, but barbecues are allowed if you’d prefer to keep to yourself. Fancy a break from cooking? There are plenty of restaurants in the nearby Skagen to keep your palate happy…

Local attractions

At Råbjerg Mile Camping, it may be hard to pry yourself away from sea and sand, but it will be worth it… Get up close with impressive birds of prey with a show at Eagle World, less than 15 minutes’ drive from Råbjerg Mile, then dive below the water’s surface at Nordsoen Oceanarium, half an hour from the site. Embrace your artistic side with a visit to the artist’s studio at Drachmanns Hus or by wandering through the galleries at Skagens Museum, then throw yourself way back in time by heading to the Skagen vippefyret, a 17th-century lighthouse with a difference. If you’re lucky enough to have the time to make a couple of day trips, an excursion to the city of Aalborg, about an hour from Råbjerg Mile, is a must. If you can only do a few things while you’re there, get some photos outside Jens Bang’s Stenhus, a renaissance mansion in the city, and meet the exotic animals at the Aalborg Zoo. Just outside the city, live the Viking life at Lindholm Høje Museum or get your adrenaline pumping on the rides at Fårup Sommerland amusement park, both around an hour from site.
