We offer a relaxed and informal camping experience in our orchard at Lower Porthamel Organic Farm in the beautiful Wye valley. Enjoy our nature trail through the farm's fields, down the abandoned old mid-Wales railway line and along the banks of the river Llynfi which is home to otters, badgers, British crayfish and kingfishers. In the evening, relax by a campfire with a bootle of wine and enjoy the sunset over the hills.

Our facilities include hot showers, family/disabled washroom and washing up area. We also have wifi available. Firewood is available from our son at the house. We aslo have free range eggs for sale.

As well as providing for families we also cater for larger groups which is situated away from the main campsite.

Nearby attractions and activities

Hay-on-Wye - book town famous for its literature festival and book shops. Full of artisan shops and boutiques, award winning bistros and cafes. Also home to our farm shop, Smallfarms, which stock's native breeds produced on our farm.

Outdoor adventure - we are perfectly positioned to enjoy many outdoor pursuits, being in the foothills of the Black mountains and in the Brecon Beacons National Park. Canoeing, cycling, walking, riding, gorge walking, caving, moutain boarding are just a taste of activities available.

This is just a taste of adventures you can take part in - visit Brecon or Hay-on-Wye tourist information for full details and many more vistor attractions. Also Black Mountain Adventures and Wye Valley Canoes for booking enquiries.

Liked: It was great to be able to have an open campfire into the evening with logs provided by the owners for a nominal fee. The site was well positioned up a slight incline with a lovely and tranquil view of the Farm House and surrounding fields. The site also own the fishing rights to a stretch of the River which was really great. The young couple who had recently taken charge of the Farm and ...

Disliked: The slight rain we got as we were packing up the tent but that's what you get from staying in April and we were offered a place to dry our wet clothes if we needed.

Liked: We didn't book this site just turned up on the off chance after being recommended by my daughter. When we arrived we were met by Sharlene the owner who was a lovely lady she explained that they were having a party for her daughter and if we didn't mind putting up with the noise that we were welcome to stay we didn't mind at all turned out it was a brill night ...

Disliked: Nothing we disliked about this site

Liked: The location within an orchard and the access to the farm. There was a very relaxed feel to the site, with freedom for the children to explore and roam around. It was excellent value for money.

Disliked: There was a group of very noisy famiilies (adults and children) who kept us awake into the night, the downside of the relaxed nature of the site.

Liked: We found the campsite to be small as we expected and hoped and therefore quiet and very friendly. Facilities were good considering size of place and the owners were extremely helpful and understanding.
We plan on going again.

Disliked: nothing to dislike about the campsite only the weather turned nasty and we had to leave earlier than planned much to our dissappointment.

Liked: The orchard was a great location to camp and the views were great. Having the picnic benches was an added bonus. Plenty of showers, toilets etc. Fantastic to have on-site recycling bins.

Disliked: The photos on the website made it seem like it was a lot closer to the river than it actually is.

Liked: Pitches are really big, owners are really friendly, facilities are slightly basic but were spotlessly clean. Bbqs and fires are allowed

Disliked: It is a very relaxed campsite and this resulted in quite a bit of noise late at night, this wasn't good trying to get our 2 year old off to sleep.

Liked: There was a choice of 2 camping areas. A very pretty little orchard and a good size field. Although the site filled up as the weekend went on, there was still plenty of space all around us. The toilets, showers and washing up facilities were nice and clean and the site owners were very good at keeping the toilet roll topped up! There is a lovely little nature trail walk from the site. The owners ...

Disliked: There was some traffic noise, although not enough to disturb us.
