Danywenallt Youth Hostel
FavouritePitches are all in the orchard with plenty of space to find your own privacy or to make camp with friends. There is no vehicular access to the orchard making this a relaxing space for families. As an old orchard there is plenty of wildlife so look out for our frogs, newts and moles (sometmes they can make it a little uneven!).
Log circle and camp fire - great for socialising in the evenings and toasting marshmallows.
The toilets/showers, a washing-up area with some storage cupboards (not a self-catering kitchen), recycling facilities, potable water, drying room & washing machine are located within the hostel.
A cafe (weekends only), restaurant and bar (each evening) are available for snacks, meals, chocolate and hot and cold drinks.
The car park and cycle shed are easily accessible from both the hostel and the orchard.

Beautiful location, nice hostel Sam D. (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: Beautiful views, secluded orchard campsite, great walking and cycling on the doorstep, cooked breakfast in the hostel, decent showers, washing up facility, short car ride to Brecon (can cycle along canal too). Disliked: Insects bites - campsite has a pond in the middle. Molehills in the site make it a bit bumpy to pitch on. |

Liked: the setting - the reservoir provided a dramatic entrance to the site. The orchard was pretty with lovely views. The staff were helpful but not intrusive. The lounge in the hostel with games was particularly enjoyed by the kids. The veggie goats cheese tart was particularly enjoyed by myself. The walk through the woods and fields into Talybont was especially pretty even in the rain. Disliked: Nothing |

Directions
Take the lane from Talybont-on-Usk towards the reservior (opposite the post office). This will take you over the canal. Follow the lane for about 1.5 miles, through the village of Aber and on past the turn off for the water works, about 300m past this you reach the reservoir and the dam wall. Turn left here and go along the top of the dam wall - we are the first turning on the left on the far side (over the cattle grid), the lane from this point is single-track and uneven for the first 200 metres then descends into our car park.
By bus
From either Brecon or Abergavenny take the X43 and alight in Talybont. You can then either walk by the lane (directions above) or take the Taff Trail (foot path and cycle/MTB trail) from behind the White Hart Inn. Both routes take about 40 mins and are about two miles. Buses run two-hourly Monday - Saturday but stop at around 5pm. From May to September the Beacons Bus runs on Sundays and on bank holidays.

Our closest train station is Abergavenny (20 miles). You can continue your journey to us by bus from here.

During August there was a very large thunder storm in the area which took out our credit card machine and broadband line, it took a week to get everything back up and running. We apologise for the inconvenience this caused our guests.
