  • Family- and dog-friendly site on a working farm in Pembrokeshire
  • Eco site within walking distance of shops and Pembrokeshire Coast Path
  • Campfires and barbecues allowed; supermarket 20 minutes' walk away
It’s easy to be drawn to the swishness of glamping… but what if you want glamping without the amps, or the luxury without the waste? At Eco Escape, a family- and dog-friendly site 10 minutes’ drive from Milford Haven in Pembrokeshire, there’s a wind turbine to offset the site’s footprint, the only lighting is solar and a tree is planted for every single guest who stays. The environmental approach doesn’t have to stop at the site: park up the car and explore the woodland trails that start right from Eco Escape or take the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, which passes right by the site, along the estuary to Milford Marina or the dog-friendly country pub in Hazelbeach. Once you’ve worked up an appetite from wandering the Pembrokeshire cliffs and woods, pick up some supplies from the nearest supermarket 20 minutes' walk away and fire up the barbecue. If you want a break from cooking, take a stroll up a quiet country lane to the local pub for some food and a couple of drinks or, if you’re happy to get behind the wheel, there are plenty of restaurants within 20 minutes of the site. Eco Escape is off-grid and electricity free, so no need for gadgets when it comes to evening time – instead, you get to sit by the firepit, basking in the glow and gazing at the stars.

Local attractions

If you don’t mind piling into the car, there’s loads to do in the area around the site. Start by getting active with a trip to Dale to get out on the water – have a go at sailing, windsurfing, paddleboarding and coasteering, then climb aboard one of the boat trips that'll take you around some West Wales islands. For a taste of grandeur, elegant gardens, stately manors and grand castles are within reach: visit the medieval castle and stately home of Picton Castle, explore the ruins of Carew Castle or Pembroke Castle, or wander among the beds at Upton Castle Gardens, all within 30 minutes. For a more historical flavour, you can’t go wrong with the Tudor’s Merchant House in Tenby or sixth-century St Davids Cathedral, both within 45 minutes. The kids might be looking for a change of pace around now, and luckily there’s plenty nearby to keep them – and the grownups – entertained: the animals and rides of Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo, Manor Wildlife Park and Oakwood Theme Park are all within half an hour, as are Carew Karting and Pembrokeshire Laser Combat.
