It’s a piscator’s paradise among the Welsh hills at Cefn Mably Lakes, where anglers can break out the boilies, bread and dog biscuits to net a monster haul before bedding down for the night in a cosy log camping pod, right on the water’s edge.
Fish from dawn till dusk from the stoop of your pod, or try some night fishing on the Lodge Lake. There are nine different coarse and carp lakes across the 35-acre park, including a match pond where pole, waggler and feeder fishermen regularly thrash it out. The waters teem with an assortment of hungry fish, but the carp are the stars: two recent catches were over 26 pounds, and bags usually make it to double figures.
A brand new shower block stands ready to warm the cockles after a hard day or night on the pegs, and the cosy lodge overlooking the water serves up drinks and hot and cold grub all day, as well as selling all the tackle and bait you could possibly need. There’s even a resident angling coach on hand for lessons, in the (highly unlikely) event that the fish aren’t biting.
Just across the road is Cefn Mably Farm Park, with animals galore, pony rides and tractor loads of play areas, including a massive heated play barn.
Nearby attractions and activities

Not quite what we expected Tania T. (Young couple, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: The tranquility and the views, was nice being on the edge of one of the ponds. The man we found when we were leaving, he seemed much more knowledgable and approachable, maybe if he was there when we arrived we might have enjoyed our stay more. Disliked: When we arrived there were no real signs to say where to go, then we walked in to see two young men. After a slight confusion about the booking they gave us the key to our pod and that was it, no information was given about where our pod was, where the toilets were or what to do the next morning about checking out. So we set off to find our pod, the first pod ... |

Simply Brilliant Stephen H. (Family with older children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: Everything (except the usual British summer weather). Went with my 21 year old son and his friend for a fishing trip. Good selection of lakes for all albilities, we all managed to catch a good number. All lakes easily accessible and within an easy walk of our 'log pod'. Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff, great cooked breakfast for £5 inc tea and toast. Disliked: Could benefit from a food/snack type section in the tackle shop(which by the way is well stocked and reasonably priced). Nearest small shop approx 3miles away. |

Very clean, very helpful staff, beautiful surroundings. joanne m. (Young couple, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: The pod itself was very clean and spacious . We didn't go there to fish but had a great time. It really does feel like you're in the middle of no where but just a short drive and you are in Cardiff centre. I loved my weekend there and the staff were lovely, in particular a young man who went out of his way to help us Disliked: There really is nothing that I disliked |

Liked: I loved the beautiful surroundings, the clean pod and the friendly and helpful staff. The staff taught my 9 year old son to fish and were brilliant with advice. The pods are spaced out so you get a lot of privacy. It's not a busy campsite but primarily a place to fish. We fished and went to Barry Island one day and Caerphilly Castle on the other day which is a must. Disliked: Nothing at all. |

Great location, 'logpod' was excellent - warm and dry Kevg188 (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos)
Liked: The location, so close to the city but like being in the middle of no-where. Log pod right on the edge of the lake - despite it being mid October we sat outside in the evening hot chocolate in hand ! We did not fish, but this was not a problem. Pod was warm, dry and really quiet. Toilets and showers were excellent, really clean and are really more like bathrooms than a 'block'. Friendly staff, allowed ... Disliked: nothing ! |

Relaxing and tranquill Lynnette_H (Family with older children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: The log pods were secure, warm and cosy, located next to one of the lakes, it was peaceful. Had a kettle, heater and lighting. The shower facilities overall were good, although still under refurbishment. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Great place to stay even if you don't fish, as it is about 10 mins from Cardiff Disliked: The showers were still being refurbished so there were no mirrors, toilet paper for the loos and you needed to wash the shower down before use from the previous person. |
