Did you know that - thanks to the Diamond Jubilee of good Queen Lilibet - the UK has three brand new cities? One of the newbies, St Asaph in Denbighshire, is home to just three thousand people. If you’re curious about this tiny gem, come to Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park, where you’ll be perfectly placed to join in any right royal knees-up that might be going on in St Asaph, and to visit the classic Welsh coastal resorts of Prestatyn and Rhyl.
Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park is a peaceful rural site with a good number of well-drained, hardstanding pitches for caravans (all with electric hookup, and most with water); some additional grassy pitches are made available at busy times. There’s also a flat two-acre field with mature greenery and lovely views of the Clywdian hills for tents (electric hookups optional), and a separate rally field.
As for amenities, all the essentials are covered to a very high standard, and there’s a great range of tourist information available on site to help you make the most of the local area. You’ll find a handful of shops, including a convenience store, butcher and chemist, in the nearby village of Dyserth (don’t miss out on a stop at the stunning Dyserth waterfalls while you’re there).
Nearby attractions and activities
For families, the safe sandy beaches, fun fairs and plentiful tourist attractions of Rhyl and Prestatyn - just four miles away - will no doubt be top of the list. The attractive seaside resorts of Llandudno and Colwyn Bay are also within an easy drive.
Fishing fans can try the trout farm ten minutes up the road from Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park, or head into St Asaph to fish the River Elwy; walkers can saunter through a superb selection of scenery, including nearby Offa’s Dyke, or drive to the Snowdonia National Park and hike the mountains and lakes; and golfers will also find that this area suits them to a tee, with a huge choice of courses including Caerwys, Meliden, Rhuddlan, Rhyl, Holywell and Prestatyn.
Other top picks for sightseeing include the picturesque village of Betws-Y-Coed, and the neighbouring Swallow Falls; the imposing remains of Rhuddlan Castle; and seventeenth century Bodrhyddan Hall, where a 3,000-year-old mummy lurks among the armour and period furniture...

Wow We had a brill time!!!!!!! Fantastic site! lisa17 (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos)
Liked: We stayed here overall for 3 weeks, i know that sounds crazy, but it was the school holidays and we all enjoyed it so much that we kept extending our stay. The kids made loads of friends and played out on the field as much as they could, lots of good fresh air rather than being stuck indoors on computers. The campsite is not far from Rhyl, Prestatyn, and Dyserth Waterfall. There are many places ... Disliked: The 'Cock a doodle doooooo!!!' |

Liked: We stayed here for the week - there was 3 adults and 3 children Disliked: would of like a park area but understand why they dont have one. |

Liked: The ladies' toilet/shower block was absolutely immaculate. You have to give the owners 10/10 for cleanliness. My husband was as equally impressed with the gents. Disliked: There is not a tent field plus a rally field - they are in fact one. How they are allowed to advertise as having both is beyond me!! |

Liked: The site was very clean & tidy and ver organised, we was greated by the owner and his daughter who where very welcoming (even stayed open late as we got lost!!!) Disliked: Due to having 2 teenage boys this site was not for us as thier was nothing for them to do and also it is not close to anywhere so their was no where for them to go. The only problem i had about the site its self was the lack of lighting on the tent field, their was none! i found it very scary walking to the toilets in the evening! |

Liked: Straight away from the start it was very welcoming and friendly. The whole place was immaculate and the owner was so helpful. We were shown around and then given our pitch on lovely well looked after land. Toilets and showers were spotless. All facilities you could need were there. Water nice and hot, drinking water available, bricks to stand our little barbeque on.A peaceful site with beautiful views. 5 minute drive to the town ... Disliked: Only a couple of niggles were the constant barking dog at the property near by and the toilets were being painted whilst we were there so my hubby got paint on his coat. Other than that perfect |

Nice site in a handy location, let down by minor points. Thomas M. (Mature couple, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: A pleasant quite site, in a handy location for north Wales. Disliked: When you approach the site, the first thing you see is two contractors caravans facing you, not a good start, then you drive on cement based road, which clogs up your tyres and shoes etc. The toilet block did not have the heating on and was freezing in April, there was nowhere to put your things in the shower, just one hook.the taps are the press type which is a pain. Also the water ... |

Liked: I very much liked the showers in the toilet block there was always hot water when needed and they were always very clean and tidy. Disliked: I disliked the fact they were not very motorhome friendly as they had a barrier with a 6' height restriction and only the manager of the site was able to open this. This was a safety measure for caravans as they could not be stollen and they could access the barrier with their cars, but motorhomes had to phone and get the manager to come and raise the barrier each time we wanted out and ... |

very good campsite robert m. (Extended family, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: Facilities excellent, toilet blocks very clear & showers were fabulous! Site was well maintained and staff very helpful & friendly! Disliked: Could do with a bit more space around your pitch or an area for the children to play! The only open space was in the tent field & as we were touring felt we would be encroaching on the campers if we sent our children to play! Maybe could done with a play ground? |

Peaceful, clean, friendly - perfect!! safrow46 (Family with young children, 2 reviews, 0 photos)
Liked: What a well run site - an example to many! After a disaster night at a terrible campsite on the coast, we moved to this one. What a difference - clean toilets and showers, a beautiful campsite which is well maintained to a high standard. Noise is kept to a minimum so no drunken idiots are tolerated, no blasting dance music to drive you insane, just a quiet, well ran site which is all I could ask ... Disliked: NOTHING TO DISLIKE!! |

Liked: Well kept grounds with nice clean toilet and shower block Disliked: On the row I was allocated it was a very narrow entrance to the row with a rock wall on each side of the corner making it difficult to enter and exit. The roadway itself was narrow with not enough room to reverse into your pitch, the van had to be unhitched and man handled into position. |
