Wake up in a heated wigwam and drink in the views of a central Highlands loch, take a boat out to hook your fishy supper, or settle down to a boathouse restaurant meal with views to take your breath away…easy options at Loch Tay Highland Lodges, where you can pitch up in a warm tipi, wigwam or Mongolian yurt for the best of Highland highlights all year round.

The park is tucked away high on a hill with belle tent pitches overlooking Loch Tay and some of the most stunning scenery in Scotland with other lochs, mountain and rivers abounding – use it as a base for sightseeing around central Scotland and the Highlands, or do some day trips and shopping in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stirling an accessible drive away.

That’s if you can tear yourself off site: archery, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, sailing and hurtling yourself down a slope in downhill cycling are all right on hand for guests. Fishing boats are available for hire too to take to the loch and land some tasty trout or succulent salmon; the site can even arrange your fishing permit.

Even with your own freshly landed salmon and trout on offer, make a point of hightailing it to the on-site Boathouse restaurant for its open fire and huge picture windows giving uninterrupted views of Loch Tay, or soak up the rays on the sundeck for a meal, vintage wine or the barbecues on some summer evenings.

‘Standard plus’ tipis at Loch Tay have their own cooking facilities, but guests in the standard tipis or wigwam have access to a fully equipped campers’ kitchen so you can fry up your catch: there’s a sitting room too to catch up with other campers. Other facilities on site include wifi, a launderette, a play area and a games room.

Nearby attractions and activities

The best things in life are free…Perthshire has visitors flocking to it from all over the world to soak up its spectacular scenery and wildlife, climb the peaks or ramble over its landscape.

The scenic village of Killin and the Falls of Dochart are a short drive away from Loch Tay, or wander westwards to see the lochside village of Kenmore with Scotland’s oldest pub and a poem inscribed into the fireplace by Robert Burns or to pick up some worthy memories of your trip at Dewar’s World of Whisky in Aberfeldy. There’s also quad biking, canyoning, clay-pigeon shooting and a host of other Highlands highlights in the surrounding area, or you could hire a bike from Loch Tay and pedal your way around parts of Perthshire.

The Scottish Crannog Centre is popular with visitors, with its reconstruction of how Iron Age dwellers lived in the area thousands of years ago; if this is your thing, make sure and take a detour to the village of Dunning too with its Iron Age hill fort, then go to hug the Fortingall Yew, the most ancient tree in Europe and at least 2000 years old. For somewhat more recent history, a trip to Castle Menzies where Prince Charlie rested on his way to Culloden in 1746 should be a Bonnie day out, as should the eighteenth century Blair Atholl Castle with its gardens, adventure playground and sculpture trail.

Perthshire has the River Tay as well as the loch: canter around the county for river fishing, walking and cycling the Tay Forest trails and the Ochil Hills; the oldest and the smallest distilleries on the Scottish whisky trail Glenturret and Edradour, and the National Trust of Scotland site the Pass of Killicrankie with its river gorge, ancient woodlands and the first purpose-built countryside visitor centre in Scotland.

Liked: This campsite is a fantastic concept, in a stunning location, and caters for everbodys needs. From tents, wigwams, Mongolian yurts to log cabins and executive log lodges. I was extremely impressed with my stay at one of the octagonal log cabins, which, although compact, was furnished and equipped to a very high standard with everything you would need, and more. A particularly nice feature was the central log burner which provided more than enough heat ...

Disliked: Not much to not enjoy about this place.

Liked: The location is ok, the Belle Tent that we stayed in was comfortable and we didn't get eaten by midges as it was far enough away from the loch. Campers kitchen was clean and tidy and well equipped. Staff in the Harbor Restaurant were friendly as were the reception staff.

Disliked: Not enough information available. No where to buy any milk or anything for about 4 miles, we walked it. Dont! Dangerous. Tolilet block is shocking. Showers cost you a pound for 10 mins. And its grotty. I expected something a bit more clean for 100 for 2 night stay in a tent.

Liked: I loved the view across the loch and watching the beautiful sunset over the mountains. Very good facilities for cooking and excellent lounge with a real log fire.

Disliked: I disliked the shared male and female temporary toilets. They were very clean and always well stocked, but would like split toilets please.
