Ledgowan Lodge Bunkhouse and Campsite

From £10 (for 1 night, 2 adults)   Why not enter some details and get an accurate price?

It’s back to basics with a difference at Ledgowan Lodge, where guests (and four-legged companions) can pitch their tents all year round - in the grounds of a three-star country house in the Scottish Highlands. Two-legged campers can take advantage of the bar and restaurant available to frequent as well as the use of loos and showers in the adjoining bunkhouse, and there’s also a washing up area and drying room for guests’ use.

There’ll be no chance of getting cramped here either with the giant tent pitches available, while canny campers can make sure they’re still in the loop with the site’s internet access and charging facilities. The folks at Ledgowan will even pick guests up from public transport, although as the train station at Achnasheen is only a ten-minute walk away it might be preferable to amble to the site instead and take in the local landscape...

Nearby attractions and activities

As well as fishing available on site, Ledgowan is close to a range of Highland highlights including golf, horse-riding, climbing and mountain-biking. The village of Achnasheen has a studio gallery and café, and can be used as a base for exploring most of the Highlands from Kinlochewe and Gairloch to the west, Lochcarron to the south-west and the glacial deltas of the Achnasheen Terraces to the south. The site is within easy driving distance of several mountain ranges including the Torridon and Fannich ranges, and the mountain Fionn Bheinn is on the doorstep.

Cycle hire is available on site for those who prefer to explore on two wheels, or if exploring by foot there are several longish walking trails around the area. Attractions such as the Official Loch Ness Monster Exhibition and events including the Ullapool Guitar Festival are about half an hour’s drive away, or if you want to stick closer to home, there’s the option of doing what many visitors to Ledgowan do, and zipping up the hill on a quad bike...

Liked: the setting was absolutely perfect for exploring the wonderful surrounding area. The staff at the hotel were friendly and accommodating.

Disliked: That only one toilet was available on site to be shared with the residents of the bunkhouse. If the camping area got busy this would be impractical. There was also an unpleasant smell coming from the drain outside the bunkhouse and beside the camping area.
