Hmmm, here’s a compelling conundrum for someone at Sundrum Castle Holiday Park: with more than thirty cracking castles tucked into the undulating landscape around Ayr, which on earth should you visit first? And even if you stay on site, it’s “decisions, decisions”, thanks to the packed programme of entertainment and activities at all hours of the day. Ditherers, you have been warned...
Daytime choices include a splosh about on the flume at the indoor pool, a relaxing session in the solarium, ten pin bowling, a round of crazy golf, a deer-stalking stroll around the charming wildlife trails, or a game of five-a-side or basketball; and for the children, there’s a mind-boggling selection of fun sessions in the kids’ clubs for ages four to fifteen.
As night falls, take your pick of competitions, live music, cabaret, dancing and comedy in the on-site entertainment venue. As for food, the Tam O’Shanter bar restaurant offers a comprehensive set of food and drink options, including freshly brewed Costa coffee, or you could just grab a bite from the fish and chip shop.
So, if you’re after an unspoilt country setting close to fantastic beaches and some of Scotland’s top tourist attractions, Sundrum Castle Holiday Park is the perfect spot. Phew, decision made...
Nearby attractions and activities
Here are some of our favourites of the thirty castles close to Sundrum Castle Holiday Park: for sheer magnitude, plus dramatic ocean views, try beautiful Culzean Castle, which sits in 600 acres a few miles south of Ayr; those with kids in tow should head for Kelburn Castle, with its secret forest walkways, crocodile swamp, petting zoo and play barn; keen golfers, meanwhile, will appreciate the amazing course at Rowallan Castle, which boasts an actual nineteenth hole (as well as the more traditional variety).
Treat yourselves to a day at the races in nearby Ayr, also great for shopping and beaches, and home to Pirate Pete’s, where you’ll find Scotland’s biggest indoor play area, as well as outdoor rides, a laser zone and a cute traditional seafront café.
Other popular day trips include a hop across the water to the stunning Isle of Arran; a pilgrimage to the Burns National Heritage Park to visit the Bard’s cottage and the neighbouring museum; and a cuddle-filled day out at the Heads of Ayr Farm Park.

Friendly, clean and welcoming SocialFlutterBy (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos)
Liked: We all loved our stay here, firstly the setting is picturesque this was our first time at Sundrum Castle Holiday Park, i have to say it is one of the cleanest we have ever had the pleasure of staying in , the facilities are very close to the pitching site which is fab! a lovely little play area and sports court on hand too, the staff were extremely helpful, and the other guests were very welcoming ... Disliked: I really cannot fault this park, maybe at a push i could say it's a little bit off the main road so if you don't have a car it's definitely public transport which could be costly |
