Great things really do come in tiny packages, as eco-camp shows, where you’ll know as soon as you arrive that you’ve really got away from it all. A small cosy site? Check. Stupendous Scottish sea views up Loch Linne towards Ben Nevis? Check. Communal campfire area for making friends and food over the flames? Check. Private cinema hire? Yes, you did read that right. The ultra-friendly staff at this lovely little site also offer a full laundry service, cycle and kayak hire.

As you’d expect from the name, everything at eco-camp is as green as can be – compost toilets, solar showers, sustainable wood for heating and natural spring water on tap. There are just five pitches too so you can relax in peace and quiet, pitching your own tent or crawling into a pre-erected one with all you need already there.

If you’re passionate about preservation, eco-camp is for you, as the team here want to offer top service and facilities with minimal impact on the environment. If flushing loos and a constant supply of scalding hot water are your camping musts then this mightn’t be quite your scene, but if your idea of camping heaven is back to basics with quite a little bit extra, then this is the place to pitch up.

Nearby attractions and activities

eco-camp is on the lovely Isle of Lismore, one of the more accessible of the Argyll islands and just a seven mile car ferry ride from Oban and a measly five-minute crossing by passenger ferry from Port Appin. But even though it’s away from it all, you’ll still find more than enough to keep you out of mischief, with the island’s heritage museum, shop and public hall as well as coastline to explore, beaches to ramble on, the Piper’s Cave to poke through and wildlife to spot including buzzards, herons and seals, hen harriers, the occasional sea eagle and a few passing porpoise.

The local community is crammed with arts and culture things to do too, including film nights, food nights, music events, art exhibitions, craft fairs, sporting successes, and kicking your heels up at the regular ceilidhs.

Liked: Very cosy and warm lodge, easy booking and hassle free stay. We were picked up and dropped off at the ferry, everything was ready for us and we were left to enjoy a great time enjoying the camp and exploring the island. The owners could not have been more helpful.
Lismore is a beautiful place, and very accessible in terms of many of the islands. Short and inexpensive ferry ride and some lovely places to ...

Disliked: Nothing - it was great

Liked: Location and the view to the mainland.

Disliked: The midges on an evening, but that's Scotland for you! Fire does disperse them, but it may be a good idea to look into some repellent for the kiddies.

Liked: Me and my father are regular campers of the Scottish western isles. Our travels have seen us camp in some of the most beautiful and scenic parts of Scotland. Our experience at eco-camp on the Isle of Lismore was without doubt, one of the best we have ever had - even though we were only there for 1 night. On our arrival we were immediately warmly greeted and made to feel at home. The owners could ...

Disliked: The fact we couldn't stay longer! ;)

Liked: We loved the location- on a very friendly and beautiful little island only 10 mins boat trip from Port Appin, and the scenery- with views of the sea, Ben Nevis and wildflowers and butterflies all around, was truly beautiful. Christina and Steve could not of been more helpful. We have stayed at many sites and this is the only one where we felt like a welcomed guest and that they would provide anything they could ...

Disliked: Nothing, even the midgies were barely noticable (the fire helps with this)

Get directions

Eco-camp is on the Island of Lismore which is located on the west coast of Scotland, and is accessible by two ferry ports.

You can travel to us from Oban, on the Calmac car ferry, which is a 45 minute crossing, or from the Port Appin passenger ferry (20 miles north of Oban), which is a five-minute crossing.

From the Port Appin ferry crossing head south along the only road for around a mile, and take the right turn to Port Ramsay. Continue on to Port Ramsay (around half a mile), and then take the left turn by the rubbish bins onto a rough track. Follow this track around half a mile, past an old caravan on your right and a single house on your left, and we are the next in line. The Croft house with the grass roof, is your reception!

From the Oban ferry crossing head up the hill on the only road for about a mile and a half. At the cross roads, take a right towards point. Follow this road for around three miles untill you see the Port Ramsay left turn. Continue on to port Ramsay, around half a mile, and then take the left turn by the rubbish bins onto a rough track. Follow this track around half a mile, past an old caravan on your right and a single house on your left, and we are the next in line. The Croft house with the grass roof, is your reception!
