Adult-only Plough Lane Caravan Site is a family-run site near Chippenham in north Wiltshire. Just two miles from Junction 17 of the M4, midway between Swindon and Bath, Plough Lane is ideally placed for visiting Wiltshire, the Cotswolds, Bath, Bristol and South Wales. We accept touring caravans and motorhomes.

The site is extremely easy to find with no small roads or lanes in which to manoeuvre. There are 52 pitches attractively laid out over four acres between landscaped shrub beds and trees. All pitches are half hardstanding and half grass giving the benefit of a dry area for your unit, car and awning with lawn to enjoy when the weather permits. All pitches have 16-amp electric hookups and many also have water and waste water connections.

Our heated shower block has spacious showers and some privacy cubicles. We have a shower room/toilet with ramped access for less able visitors. There is a fully equipped laundry. Our facilities have been graded as five-star (exceptional) every year since we opened 15 years ago and we aim to maintain this standard on a daily basis.

There are pubs locally (two within walking distance) and a village shop and post office in a nearby village. A large supermarket and garage are just a mile away. There are good bus services to Chippenham (with connections to Bath, Devizes and Swindon) just outside the site.

If you want to bring your pet away on holiday with you they will be welcome so long as they are well behaved. We have had cats, birds and tortoises staying as well as the usual dogs. We limit dogs to two per pitch and have a small exercise area on site which has a gravel path for wet days.

Nearby attractions and activities

Chippenham is one of the oldest towns in England and the town is an ideal base for touring the surrounding areas of Wiltshire, Somerset and the Cotswolds. There are National Trust properties and gardens, canals and rivers, museums and visitor centres in abundance to visit.

Nearby Castle Combe and Lacock are world famous but other villages such as Grittleton and Biddestone are delightful surprises. Within 20 minutes are the beautiful Bowood Estate, Malmesbury Abbey and Gardens (home to the Naked Gardeners) and Dyrham Park. The Georgian city of Bath is only a bit further away and the wonders of Avebury, Bradford-on-Avon and Westonbirt Arboretum are less than half a hour's drive away.

Venturing a bit further, Stonehenge, Devizes (famous for its canal locks), the Cotswolds and South Wales are all within reach. Longleat, Cheddar and Bristol also offer rich pickings. Bath is within easy reach as are Lacock and Castle Combe, two of the most beautiful villages in England. There are many interesting towns and villages to visit in the area, and a wide variety of places to walk or just take in the scenery. The market town of Devizes with its famous flight of canal locks is within easy reach. Swindon is only 20 minutes' drive away.

For prehistoric interest, north Wiltshire offers serious competition to the more famous stone circle of Stonehenge (although this is only one hour's drive from the site). The ancient track known as the Ridgeway runs along the crest of the Marlborough Downs. The Avebury stone circles are regarded as one of the most important prehistoric monuments in Britain, and nearby Silbury Hill and the notorious crop circles still baffle the experts!
