General

  • Multi award-winning and adults-only luxury holiday park
  • On the edge of a Somerset village 25 minutes from Glastonbury
  • Spotless amenities and setting among trees and picnic tables

You'll likely want a long stay at leafy and award-winning Long Hazel in Somerset: it looks lush, is run to swish standards, and is an excellent Somerset setting for getting out and about (the famed Haynes International Motor Museum, for example, is within a mile).

The friendly and professional Long Hazel team prides itself on the vibe, amenities and look of the park, all set over three and a half acres of handsomely landscaped grounds surrounded by trees and dotted with benches and picnic tables. It's a cinch to get to as well, as you can drive straight off the A303 into the high street of the local village and up Long Hazel's private two-lane road – nice and wide for vehicles of up to 40 feet too.

All this lushness is on the edge of the village of Sparkford, a couple of miles from Yeovilton and three miles from Cadbury Castle. Glastonbury, Bath, Wells and Cheddar are all easily reachable for day trips, and the park is on the bus route for all local festivals if you seek a peaceful and pristine retreat after a day wading in mud. The Hauser and Wirth art gallery and arts venue at Bruton is eight and a half miles away.

Long Hazel is firmly eco friendly (even bread is recycled, onto the bird table), and has excellent amenities including toilets, hot showers, a covered washing-up area and a launderette. There's a separate bathroom suite for wheelchair users and mobility-impaired guests, with room for carers and accessible by small mobility scooters.

From the manager...

Thank you so much for your lovely review and your kind comments and we are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us.

We are very happy to say that our local pizza truck will be joining us again every Friday next summer! We are also taking on board your comment about a full length mirror in the ladies and will be doing our best to plan this in to our shower block refurbishments taking place this winter.

We hope to see you again soon!

From the manager...

Thank you so much for your glowing review and we are so happy you enjoyed your stay with us and made such good use of the local surroundings to go out and explore!

We have a bus timetable in our Reception and the bus stop is only 100 yards away. If you ask nicely, they will drop you at the end of our drive on return. If you need help with transport on a Sunday, we can recommend local taxis or there are lots of other great pubs within two or three miles walk.

We look forward to seeing you again soon!

    Tight spaces & tired showers

From the manager...

Thank you very much for your review and we're glad to see you'd stay again and recommend us to your friends.

We do not have wardens at Long Hazel Park, so you were dealt with directly by Alan and Pamela, the owners. As you will see from our Pitchup listing and responses to several reviews below, we do not have a dog walk on site. This is because we are a small, three and a half acre area and we simply do not have room for it. On our listing, it also shows photographs of the dog bin and dog walk which are directly opposite our entrance. Alan did show you this upon check in and is 30 seconds walk from our Reception. We therefore do not need a dog bin on site. This information was all available on our listing at the time of your booking. We are surrounded by exceptional dog walks in the local area, which were pointed out to you upon check in, however, as you only stayed one night with us as a stop-over, you may not have had the chance to go and explore.

Every year, we are graded by the Tourist Board, ACSI, ADAC and The AA and given great scores and feedback for our showerblock. Nevertheless, we are sure you will be pleased to hear that we are overhauling the showerblock this winter (as footfall is too great during the summer) and have already begun this by installing Dyson hand driers and solar panels which you would have seen during your stay.

As always, if you have any issues during your stay, we live on site and you are more than welcome to raise these with us at the time and we could have provided feedback, rather than taking to leave us a rather disappointing online review afterwards.

Long Hazel Park was well kept, the amenities were clean and tidy. The owners encourage recycling which is great. The grass areas and surrounding foliage was well cared for and the flowers on site were very pretty. The pitches are level and the staff are very friendly. there is a Spar shop, a garage and McDonalds within walking distance to the site. This site is very central to local places of interest.

Green chillies, hot water for washing up. Facilities were functional and fine - just unnattractive.

    Disliked:

Traffic noise from the main road, being so close to other campers, lack of a view, gravel pitches (not much grass). Felt sad to park up here after a lovely few days on a huge open farm in Devon.

From the manager...

Thank you very much for your review. We are so happy to see your great ratings for value for money, accommodation, facilities, customer service and cleanliness.

We are a little disheartened by your comments, especially as you did not raise any complaints during your stay. You booked with us for one night, mid-week as a stop-over (Wednesday) on your way back to London, arriving late evening and leaving early the next morning. You booked a hardstanding pitch for your motorhome, which is the gravel pitch you were given with around 8 metre square lawns next to these and ample grass on to our tent area, which was mostly empty during your stay and could be used for recreational activities. There is plenty of grass throughout the park as is clearly shown on our photographs on our Pitchup listing.

As you stayed mid-week, you are correct that most of our customers are older and retired during this time. This is because our younger customers tend to be at work during the week and, instead, holiday at weekends. As the majority of our customers had left after the Bank Holiday weekend, we were relatively quiet during your stay and we cannot understand how other campers would have caused you this much upset. We are a small, three and a half acre Park, not a wild camping field on a farm, and so you will see other customers during your stay. As a functioning accommodation business, we do require several bookings per night to stay afloat. It is disappointing you chose not to engage with other campers during your stay as we had some really wonderful and interesting guests staying at the same time as you both.

We truly cannot understand how you found our Park to be “charmless”. Indeed you have mentioned the free chillis that we put out, alongside our herb garden which all customers are welcome to use during their stay. We have added personal touches all over the Park, including hand-painted bird boxes, bird tables, insect hotels, ample picnic tables, fruit trees and a wide variety of plants which you would have seen during your stay and are visible on our Pitchup listing. Perhaps if you had stayed for longer than 18 hours, you would have been able to visit the stunning Somerset countryside we are surrounded by including wonderful walks, farm shops, country pubs, local shops etc.

Regarding our facilities, the majority of our customers love them as you will see from all other reviews, however, we are intending to overhaul our shower block and Reception during this winter. This is a time-sensitive project as we have to make sure we are doing work during quieter times and it would be impractical to close off access to the shower block during August. Just before you arrived, we had brand new Dyson hand driers installed in our shower block and are due to have solar panels installed this week to help support our eco-friendly ethos.

We did take a look at the farm you stayed on in Devon and can confirm we are probably quite far removed from this. We are a four star, four pennant, dedicated caravan park with a formal shower block and hardstanding pitches and you were aware of this when you booked. We have noted that the farm's facilities consisted of one compostable toilet, one shower and two sinks in a shed and you were pitched on long grass in a field. As such, we are sure it was quite a culture shock coming to us.

We are glad that we were able to reach four and five star ratings from the majority of your review and wish you all the best in the future finding a site more suitable to your needs.

We enjoyed our stay at long Hazel. Small well maintained site. Clean toilet blocks. It rained heavily on one of our days here but the ground drained well and no water logged areas.

It was nice to walk the pub a few minutes away after putting the tent up. Around 10-15 walk to the spar/Mcdonalds, good selection of food in the spa.

The park is also on several cycle routes.

This is King Arthur land too, with the Iron Age hill fort at South Cadbury rumoured to be the setting of Camelot; the Long Hazel team say this is a must-see, particularly for the spectacular views across Somerset and Dorset.

Also close by are the exhibits and events of Haynes International Motor Museum, half a mile away, and RNAS Yeovilton and Fleet Air Arm Museum, both within three. For historical sites, drive along to Glastonbury Tor and Abbey (25 minutes), Wells Cathedral (35 minutes) and the Wookey Hole Caves (45 minutes).
