See all facilities…Let your troubles ebb away at Ebborways Farm near Wells, in the scenic heart of Somerset. Perfect for those in pursuit of an authentic camping experience, simplicity is the key here: it’s just you, a field - and a campfire if you like - in sumptuous, serene surroundings. Facilities are limited to a water supply and composting loos, and you can pitch wherever you like, alone or in groups.
However, you’re not too far from a bit of civilization: it’s a short walk to a handful of pubs - including a couple that do top-notch food - and a farm shop, in the local village of Priddy (and it is, too).
Please note that you’ll need to bring your own wood for campfires, or ask the owners to buy some for you in advance of arriving.
Nearby attractions and activities
Given the proximity of Bath and Wells, there’s an obvious temptation to regale your companions with choice one-liners from Blackadder; but pause for breath and you’ll discover that both have more celebrated charms than the baby-eating bishop. Bath probably needs less of an introduction: think Roman baths, Georgian grandeur, Jane Austen, rugby and culture aplenty; while Wells, which holds the accolade of England’s smallest city, is a medieval gem with a thirteenth century cathedral, a moated bishop’s palace, and a lively twice-weekly market.
Also highly recommended is a trip to the spectacular Cheddar Gorge, which offers something for all ages: breathtaking views; brilliant caving and rock climbing; walks up Jacob’s Ladder; open-top bus tours; a clutch of family attractions; eerily beautiful stalactite caverns; and, of course, more cheese than you can shake a stick at.
Keen walkers will be delighted by the proximity of the Mendips (Ebborways Farm is close to the West Mendip Way, which runs to the Ebbor Gorge nature reserve); or, for those who prefer life on four wheels, there are loads of fascinating places an easy drive away: atmospheric Glastonbury, the colossal caves and family attractions at Wookey Hole, the vibrant maritime city of Bristol, the fantastic safari and adventure park at Longleat, and the sandy beaches of Weston-super-Mare.
If you’re visiting in August, you may be lucky enough to coincide with Priddy’s annual sheep fair; this historic event, with animal demonstrations, a funfair and more, attracts a whopping 10,000 visitors each year.
Finally, should you feel the need to indulge in our national pastime, there are more than 90 outlet shops at the Clarks Village centre, in the nearby village of Street.

Great rugged camping! Akin to wild camping. nicola p. (With friends, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: its ruggedness and the fact we could have a fire! Very rugged. Almost like camping in a random field! But that's what we like so no issues there. Disliked: the rain (not the fault of the farm) and no useable portaloos. Had to use nature's garden!!! |
