General

  • Peaceful site on a large estate 10 minutes' drive from Frome
  • Within half an hour of Longleat, Wookey Hole and Bath
  • Camp kitchen, café and barbecues or firepits to hire

The gorgeous Mendip Hills in one direction, the market town amenities of Frome a couple of miles in the other… this is a super spot for a Somerset sojourn.

Field 725 Eco Camping and Glamping is a family-friendly site in the grounds of Critchill Manor, and within easy reach of heaps of local activities and attractions – Bath, Wells or Glastonbury are all about half an hour away, as are Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole and Longleat. Should you wish to plot your next adventures in a pub, there’s a splendid 17th-century inn in the village of Nunney, five minutes’ drive away (or 45 minutes on foot for the energetic).

Back at base, there’s lots of lovely space for running about/chilling out (delete as appropriate), and kit to borrow for games of cricket, swingball and other alfresco antics. Barbecues and firepits are available to rent for open-air evenings, and there’s a covered camp kitchen in case of damp days. The little on-site café is open through the summer for hot drinks and enticing breakfast crêpes.

We stayed on site for five enjoyable nights.
The sites in a lovely quiet location. Yes there is a sports field close, but that really isn't an issue. Other than that it's farming noises.
Manger/owner was a pleasant and reasonable guy, as was any other staff we spoke with.
Facilities where perfectly clean and serviceable, though limted.
We didn't use Wi-Fi so can't comment on that.
This site will definitely stay on our returns list.

Stayed in Glam-Plane and loved it. Beautiful setting, excellent, well-maintained facilities, generous and kind staff. The Glam-Plane was unique and clearly lots of love, care, creativity and thought had gone into adapting the plane to a cosy and welcoming space. I look forward to my next visit. Thanks to you all.

Very friendly, lots to do, really helpful staff (thank you Sam for fixing our tent), real espresso coffee van, WiFi, accepts card onsite, composting toilets were very clean and smelled good, facilities top rate, amazing value for money - what’s not to like

    Disliked:

Got eaten alive by the midges, but that’s hardly the campsites fault - I blame nature for that one

The ambience -very chilled, the location, the composting loos (though visitors need more education on how to use them!), the onsite catering and the price.

    Disliked:

The showers were a bit hit and miss, they probably need a separate water supply to the sinks. No hot water at the sinks was also a pain for washing up.

I high recommend this site, with easy access, great eco facilities and brilliant staff , who gave it a real sense of an eco community which cares !. Loved the cool touches , like the field bar ,tree swings, play area and coffee wagon, if the weather had been a little nicer we'd of loved to take a dip in the beautiful lake in the surrounding grounds . The best was pitching the tent in the small wooded area , the simple magic of fairy lit tree will bring us back next year .Thanks all , shout to Paul ! Peace Bev Toby and Renn

For town times, you’re within around a half-hour drive of medieval Wells, UNESCO-listed Bath and Arthurian Glastonbury. The Somerset Rural Life Museum is the place to soak up a bit more local history, and there are vintage vehicles aplenty on show at the Haynes International Motor Museum and on the heritage line at East Somerset Railway.

Other days out locally include Stourhead National Trust estate, the six-mile safari driving trail at Longleat, the show caves at Wookey Hole and Cheddar Gorge (England’s largest gorge at three miles long, fact fiends).
