See all facilities…Keen to make some music under a starry starry night? Sign up for one of the music courses at Keens Cottage Camping, where you can croon the evening away at Wimbleball Lake, one of the first dark sky reserves in the country. Or just kick back and enjoy the scenery at this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the edge of Wimbleball Lake, where you’ll be able to get back to basics and away from it all in the heart of the Exmoor National Park.
The site has grass pitches (with hardstanding pitches available if the weather’s wet), with fresh mains water and waste disposal, but you can also live in the lap of luxury and crawl into a pre-erected bell tent or tipi, or hire the site’s luxury caravan. The bell tent and tipi sleep up to five and come equipped with double beds, outside table and chairs as well as a barbecue – just what’s needed after a day spent hiking the moors or an evening keenly making music...
Nearby attractions and activities
If you’re pitching up in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, you’ll find plenty to see and do, with Dulverton, the gateway to Exmoor, on the doorstep and with the beaches of Minehead, Dunster, Porlock, Lynton and Lynemouth all within easy reach alongside miles of cracking Devon coastline – the Victorian railway down the cliffs is a must-do. History buffs will be in heaven with the cathedral and medieval tunnels at Exeter an hour south, while foodies can browse around the gourmet shops and market at Barnstaple.
If you’d like to something a little more active than sunbathing, sightseeing or railway-riding, take your pick from local fishing, golf, sailing, horse-riding, climbing and more, or hire a bike to cover a few more miles. Or try a sailing or fishing holiday on Wimbleball Lake – with a 10% discount available for Keen campers at the South West Lakes Trust Activity Centre.
Walkers will find a first-class route onto Haddon Hill or the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, or can take in the many local beauty spots including Tarr Steps and Dunkey Beacon. And walks can be combined with nature-spotting by taking the 13 mile walk around Wimbleball Lake and looking out for some kingfishers and red deer. Naturally, there’s a tea room to stop at en route for the obligatory Devon tea and scones...

Loved it! Jess K. (Young couple, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: We stayed in the bell tent, which had a loads of space and everything you'd need for a very comfortable night of camping! Disliked: Not a huge problem as we only spent one night, but there are no showers on the site. The owner did mention that they were adding one soon though which would definitely make us stay longer on our next visit. |

Directions
From Taunton:
Follow signs for Minehead (A358), passing Cross Keys Inn and signs for Bishops Lydeard and Station. You will see Cedar Falls health farm on the right. Take the next left onto B3224 signposted Exford etc. Drive up through the hills and eventually you will drop down and go straight across the crossroads. Climb the steep hill passing Raleigh's Cross Inn. Shortly after this road changes to B3190 (signposted Bampton). Don't turn right at the chapel - just keep going.
Within two miles, turn off right between two reflective bollards signed by a brown tourists sign to Wimbleball Lake. Drive over the bridge and the road narrows going up hill. Just after some farm buildings take the next left to the lake. Our Keens Cottage Camping board should be on verge. Drive past three entrances on left to lake and climb lane. Your satnav will take you to a cottage on the left (this is not us) follow the lane and eventually it drops down to the left. Ignore the sign saying no public right of way. We are on the left just beyond our old tin garage.
We are on a single-track lane with passing places. Our 28-foot caravan and 7.5 tonne horse lorry can move in and out comfortably but please bear this in mind.
