"Your peaceful hideaway in the forest". Do come and see what the Jurassic South Coast has to offer...or just chill out here. Hillside Caravan and Campsite is uniquely well protected naturally by the forest, and our height above sea level along with our superb underground drainage system means we never flood or become boggy! We offer exclusive discounted camping for the emergency services, armed forces, NHS workers, disabled guests and OAPs - just let us know at the time of booking.

Hillside Campsite is peacefully nestled into the 150,000 acres of the Ringwood Forest at Verwood (part of the 'old' King's forest of Cranborne Chase), and open all year round. Diane and Brian are always pleased to share their lovely five acres with guests: you can walk or cycle straight out of Hillside's gates, through our other fields directly into and along the 30-odd miles of beautiful forest tracks, without any dangerous road work.

Children can safely play or learn to cycle anywhere on the campsite, clearly visible from any pitch, as camping is only allowed along the perimeter (this makes each pitch more spacious and private; you can't hear your 'neighbours' snoring). This leaves plenty of room for other guests to play badminton, boules or just share a glass of wine and the odd barbecued sausage or two.

The large modern facilities are both private and very clean: there are 10 electric hook-ups available (modern, safe 10-amp supply units on separate mains - so no loss of current due to another's pitch being overloaded). Ice-packs are exchangeable for the more traditional camper.

The nearest road is 200 metres away, so there are no road noises or street lamps ruining the night sky - in fact, one common comment about Hillside is that guests here can enjoy watching the moon creep across a carpet of sparkling stars, to the tunes of the night jars and owls.

There is a no noise rule before 9am and after 9pm (with talking etc allowed) for all guests' comfort. A zero-tolerance to stupidity, aggression, annoyance to other guests or Hillside is operated.

We have won four awards for excellence, including the Camping & Caravanning Club's 'Your Place in the Countryside' award in 2001.

We are looking forward to welcoming you and yours. Brian and Diane.

Nearby attractions and activities

We are so very fortunate at Hillside, well hidden quietly in the forest yet centrally situated for Bournemouth, Poole, Brownsea Island, Jersey, Swanage, Weymouth, Lulworth Cove, Corfe Castle, Dancing Ledge, Kimmeridge, Wareham, Blandford, Wimborne, Shaftesbury, Salisbury, Fordingbridge, Burley Lyndhurst, Beaulie, Lymington (and the Isle of Wight), Christchurch and Mudeford Quay.

So whether you want to explore the New Forest or the National Trust properties in Wiltshire, Dorset and Hampshire, you can be there in a little over 20 minutes (which, with the price of fuel, keeps the moths in). Alternatively, just a gentle 15-minute stroll southwards through this beautiful forest, in Verwood town, there's 'The Hub' (busy entertainments, cinema, shows, etc), a museum, the Crane golf course, three super pubs, Indian, Italian, Chinese restaurants, cream teas, street cafes, brilliant and yummy butchers, hairdressers, florists, Morrisons, a Co-op, fish and chip shop and a farmers' market. Westwards there's the Forge, Woodlands, Edmondsham House and Victorian walled garden and a Norman Church; then north to Cranborne past the King's Hill and pottery to Lord Cranborne's shoppe and the Sheaf of Arrows pub - we could go on and on. Or just toddle into this forest and explore the fantastic history here.

Liked: Peace, wonderful green field to park in.

Disliked: Amenities block had 2 toilets, mostly without toilet paper for days at a time.
The two showers were out of order for 2 of the 3 days and on the one occasion that the shower to worked, you had to put 50p in the slot.

Very muddy rutted track to get in. Very difficult to find.

From the manager...

Virginia Mather's booking through this firm (pitchup up) was cancelled by Hillside. She and her husband arrived here, and hated it so much, they asked and paid for an extra length of stay here. Quite obviously, Virginia and hubby, left here so disgruntled, that they diudn't really want to book a revisite here during their Stays touring England etc:
Hillside Ca,mpsite does not, nor will be advertising through Pitchup.com.
I have NO INTENTION of defending Hillside, against this rubbish spouted above, alledged from a customer. Guests who have stayed at Hillside know differently.

Liked: Long walks through the pine forest with a pub at the finish.
Bbq-ing by our tent with plenty of space to sit in peace and quiet with a glass of fizz without being too close neighbours, but close enough to enjoy people watching!

Disliked: The village of Verwood is quite new and lacks character and dorset charm, but on the plus side it has everything you could possibly need. We much preferred to stay close to the campsite and out in the countryside. If we had stayed longer we would have explored the surround villages/pubs.

From the manager...

Diane offered these guests 3 pitches to choose from, 2 flat ones and one with a very slight slope. They initially chose the slight slope (it was suitable for a motorhome using small portable devices to adjust the the wheel heights). After a night, they went out and revisited using another pitch. That night they "said" they had enjoyed being here so much, they wanted to stay aanother night and Diane directed them to a caravan pitch 4, with EHU (which they didn't need) They paid for this extra night. I (Brian) talked to them for quite a while whilst they unpacked their new hose to take on water before leaving to go the the GREAT DORSET STEAM FAIR, to stay Unfortunatly they could not get on site there and returned to Verwood area to park up that night. Their At no time was any suggestion made that they were unhappy with Hillside or our superb facilities or service. Their comments regarding regarding "leaning portacabins", "Bad slopes" for camping, no service, etc Perhaps the complainant needs an eye test, because we have been full all through August and now, with 25 families a nights within our 5 acres, and no one else has said anything, including the suppliers. BESIDES, WHY BOOK AND PAY FOR AN EXTRA NIGHT - IF YOU ARE UNHAPPY WITH THE SITE. Something else obviously spoilt their Holiday??? whish they had spoken to me or Diane. Brian Davison

Thanks Mark, for this opportunity to answer your review. You drove in and out of Hillside using the two tracks through our land into the 30 miles + of tracks within these lovely 150,000 acres of Forest. Why on earth didn't you cycle along them?? We have free maps etc up on the Notice board and in the Office. We do agree that the Forestry Commission chain saws did occassionally work alongside our boundary, they were slightly noisy, but how else can this Forest be kept healthy and alive for the varieties of wildlife?? Their duties there are over now Mark, Why not revisit, stay F.O.C., and try again?? Brian Davison.

Liked: The location is wonderful, quiet, rural but close enough to walk to Verwood which has shops, pubs, Morrisons - even a Costa.

Brian is fabulous - a proper character and very kind to his guests. We went to his butcher and were given free sausages and eveything we bought was very good quality. He also brought us eggs from his ducks and some quail eggs.

Everyone was very friendly. Facilities ok, shower good and hot.

Disliked: Field is on quite a slope. Loos could do with regular mopping of floor.
