  • Adults-only site in peaceful Dorset countryside
  • Top spot for slow-paced getaways
  • 30-minute drive from Bournemouth and the Dorset coast
At Dapplewood Caravan Site, an adults-only site in Dorset, less than a mile from the village of Holt and a 10-minute drive from the market town of Wimborne, you can let all those stresses melt away. Dapplewood is a great base if you want to slow things down with a stroll on Holt Heath less than five minutes’ drive from the site, explore Moors Valley, 10 minutes away, or centre yourself with a short drive to the coast. Back on site, you’re in a top spot to unwind. The site keeps distractions to a minimum, so you can be sure of some peace and quiet – take the dog for a walk off-lead in the two acres of ash and oak woodland or relax at the picnic area under the trees, gazing out over the fields next to the site. You can grab supplies from one of the shops in Wimborne or, if you’d prefer to have someone else do the cooking, venture across the fields to the local gastropub or nab a table at one of the many restaurants within 10 minutes of the site.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Such a pretty little site. Well kept, nice, spacious pitches, surrounded by beautiful countryside, and with its own bluebell wood. So peaceful with an abundance of wildlife, the birdsong was joyful to hear. Very lovely pub in walking distance, around 15 minutes. We will definitely visit again.

From the manager: Thank you Cherryl Anne for you very kind review. It was perfect timing for the bluebells and I think you brought the beautiful weather with you!

Liked: Warm welcome and location

Disliked: Did not like having to put car in front of caravan rather than to side.

From the manager: Hi Guys, I'm so glad you had a relaxing time sunbathing in the warmer weather this weekend! Our entrance sign respectfully asks guests to park on the long hardstanding areas to save the grass for the benefit of all of our future visitors as I'm sure you can appreciate if everyone drives and parks on the grass it gets destroyed creating a muddy mess in wet weather.

Liked: A nice personal site under the trees, with morning bird song and a woodland path to walk the dog. Friendly host and a great welcome.

Disliked: A bit muddy this time of year and no where to wash boots or flooring when packing up. Needs a wash area/ drain for this. Wifi also not reliable.

From the manager: Hi Guys, I'm delighted you had a lovely stay with us despite the never ending rain! Hopefully we can welcome you back in the summer months when the woodland is at its best and the birds really do sound like a tropical rain forest. Anyone is more than welcome to use the fresh water tap in the centre of the site to wash any items prior to departure.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Lovely quiet scenic site. Bird song as the sun goes down is deafeningly beautiful. Local pub super easy to find at the end of a lovely short walk through fields. If you are after peace, darkness and nature this site is perfect. The site was full when we stayed, but its the kind of site where everyone appreciates the same thing, walks, nature, keeping quiet :-). Brigette the owner was very friendly helpful and welcoming. Would definitely recommend and we will re-book soon.

Disliked: Not clear how to recycle / separate rubbish for recycling, so we just bought ours home. Different councils have different rules so understandable if the facilities aren't available locally, but if they are it would be good to be able to contribute where we can. This isn't 'dislike' only a suggestion

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Jemima, we completely agree regarding the recycling and have tried many ways over the years to encourage guests to recycle. Sadly many just won't. Someone almost daily empties their van bin contents not even in a bag into our bins mixing glass, food and things you cannot begin to imagine! Truly, you couldn't make it up! We do have separate glass bins and we pull out as much as we can of the mixed rubbish where we safely can. Aside from that I am so pleased you had a lovely relaxing stay and would be delighted to welcome you back to see us soon.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Very nice well situated and quiet. Bit wet and muddy as the rain never stopped no one’s fault of course but looks like it would beautiful in dryer times. Electric good, superb WiFi and telephone signal. Flat nearly level pitches on hardened standing. Tree lighting, very dog friendly. Host Bridgette very friendly and helpful. Good price and well worth a visit. Great dog friendly pub with food nearby : no shower on site if needed. Adults only.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Beautiful, well kept, welcoming little site with adjacent ancient woodland which my dogs appreciated as much as me. Would love to return in bluebell season. Very peaceful, with electric hookups. Lovely to hear so many birds especially a Tawny owl and Woodpecker.

Disliked: Got a little lost with Google maps trying to find the site but luckily found it with the walking directions rather than the driving directions

Local attractions

What’s a holiday without some sun, sea and sand? At Dapplewood, at least two of those are within easy reach – Highcliffe, Bournemouth and Sandbanks beaches are each within 40 minutes’ drive of the site, and are top spots for watersports, sailing and visits to the stunning coast. At Dapplewood, you’re well placed for exploration of this part of the country. There are plenty of cycling routes passing close to the site – take your pick and follow it around historic sites, soaking in the scenic Dorset countryside. Let yourself be transported back in time with a trip to the stunning Kingston Lacy, 15 minutes from Dapplewood, where you can poke around the Egyptian artefacts, wander through the Japanese Gardens and imagine what it must feel like to have an IOU from a king. There are loads more stately piles close to the site, including Little Clarendon, Mompesson House, Max Gate and Mottisfont. History enthusiasts who are craving a little more can see the Cerne Abbas Giant hillside carving and Stonehenge, both less than an hour from the site. The shops, theatres, restaurants, museums and galleries of Bournemouth are 30 minutes away – Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and the Oceanarium are must-sees, and the more adventurous might like to try the climbing walls, vertical drop slide and ziplines at the Bournemouth Pier.
