See all facilities…Let your spirits soar at Higher Moor Farm, a peaceful family-friendly site a few miles from the sandy stretches of Weymouth, set among eight acres of Dorset countryside.
The family who run Higher Moor have farmed here for over forty years, so can answer any questions or give tips on what to see and do in the surrounding countryside, even if your first or most pressing issue is where to get the best fish and chips locally (usually our first question on arriving at a site). Daniel and his friendly team will do their best to ensure you have a tip-top stay, with facilities and services kept to the highest standards.
The good-value pitches are level and spacious, with electric hook-up available and free wifi where coverage is available. As well as the usual amenities, new for 2013 there’s a children’s play area, a ball park area and an onsite shop; there are also two supermarkets within five minutes’ drive.
Nearby attractions and activities
Higher Moor Farm is minutes away from the 2012 Olympic sailing venue Weymouth, with its sandy bay, Georgian seafront, first-class watersports facilities, Sea Life Centre and regular events including dragon boat racing and fireworks festivals. (Keep an eye out for the sand modeller, whose family has been sculpting sand in Weymouth for generations.) Portland’s also crammed with watersports opps, including scuba diving, and you can go fishing and rock climbing here too.
The Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site is minutes away from the campsite with its ancient cliffs, walks, biking and riding trails, boat trips, angling and fossil-hunting: try the long shingle stretch at nearby Chesil Beach or Lyme Regis. If you like your history a few million years more modern, try Dorchester with its Roman Amphitheatre, or go on a history tour of Dorset to take in its castles, stately homes and gardens as well as its ancient forts and landmarks.
For birdwatching and wildlife spotting, the RSPB reserve Radipole Lake is about five miles away from Higher Moor and has regular events, family activities and a visitor centre. There’s also the popular Studland Beach & Nature Reserve along the coast at Swanage, which was the inspiration for Toytown in the Noddy stories and which has all six species of British reptiles dwelling round about. If you have mini naturalists in the family, they’ll also like walking among the mute swan colony at Abbotsbury Swanery, chattering with the inhabitants at the Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre or feeling fancy at the (free) Fancys Family Farm in Portland.
Elsewhere in Dorset, the appropriately-named Poole with its natural harbour is another highly popular spot with watersports enthusiasts and is easily accessible from Higher Moor, as is the neighbouring seaside town of Bournemouth. For other day trips, try Swanage, Wareham or East Bay – or take a ferry ride to one of the Channel Islands from Weymouth.

Liked: We had a friendly welcome, the site was well organised with fantastic facilities. The shower blocks were amazing with plenty of hot water. The pitches were large and level and the price was very reasonable. The girls loved the play area and our dog was also welcome. There was a well stocked shop. The campsite is close to Weymouth and the Dorset attractions, but is also out in the country in a very pretty area ... Disliked: Nothing to dislike. |

Fantastic family friendly site...so nice we have re-booked already! helen r. (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: When we arrived it was clear to see that this is a lovely site set in beautiful surroundings, it is not a large site which helps when you have young children with you! Disliked: Whilst I didn't go to the other 'wash up block' to see how many sinks were available to wash up in, I was surprised that there was only 1 sink in the new washing block area...it wasn't a problem for us though as we ate out for our stay.
From the manager...
Thank you very much for your lovely review and we are delighted the kids did not get bored. We are very sorry about the problem with the boiler in the ladies shower block. They block was brand new and fitted on the Friday morning. Our plumber has now resolved this problem. We are also going to build an extra wash up point aside the ladies shower block identical to the one next door to the tents. We do have 2 other washing up points with sinks at the other toilet block and inside facilities within the laundry. |

Liked: Everything really, I had a problem with a fellow camping family allowing their dog to foul next to my awning where my children played and another was giving joy rides to children in a trailer on the back of his car at well over the 5mph site speed limit which a feel should of been stopped but the actual campsite and the friendliness of the staff was excellent. They lent us gas bottle spanners and ... Disliked: As above.
From the manager...
We are so sorry about the dog foul. We have a no tolerance policy on dog fouling and if we had been told I would have asked them to leave the site. We were also not aware of the trailer rides and will act on this if we ever see this again. Thank you very much for your feed back. |

Greatest place to stay stephanietrowman (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos)
Liked: This was the greatest campsite to stay. Staff were friendly especially Daniel who made sure everyday we was happy and ensured all our needs were met. Toilets and showers are kept clean and added extras like washing lines were very useful even the sinks for washing up areas was supplied with washing up liquid. Ok there are electricity pylons across the campsite however common sense should tell u not to pitch the tent under them ... Disliked: NOTHING TO DISLIKE
From the manager...
Thanks for this lovely review |
Liked: The very clean and warm facilities were very nice, though I'm glad to see that the number of showers is to be increased - it was fine while the site was quiet (end of September), but I can imagine queues when it gets busy! The warm welcome we received from Daniel (along with his recommendation of the best fish and chips I've had!) was lovely :) Disliked: The noisy electricity pylon in the field next door! That didn't detract from our enjoyment though.
From the manager...
Many thanks for your feedback which we value. We will be increasing shower capacity next year. We appreciate what you say about the pylon but are pleased it did not affect the enjoyment of your stay. We are also very pleased you had the best fish and chips you had ever had! |

Many thanks for your great freedback. We have already taken on board what you say and will have a small farm shop ready for next year. We have set up an outside ping pong table but will take on board what you say about providing more activities next year. |

Lovely quiet clean camp site Melissa B. (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: Nice grassy pitches, clean and good shower and toilet facilities, convenient site in lovely country location, great sunset at night! Perfect for family camping as it was quiet and peaceful. The goal and table tennis things were a nice addition. Very reasonable. Disliked: No dislikes - but it was quiet when we stayed so no queues for toilets/showers etc. I think that in peak season 2 female showers and 2 female toilets may not be enough?
From the manager...
Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are adding extra showers for next year taking on board what people say. |

Wasn't really a problem for us as the site wasn't too busy, but during busy periods seems like there might be some queuing.
From the manager...

Lovely new site! We wish them well! Carrie (Mature couple, 1 review, 0 photos)
Liked: I booked as we were looking for a cheap getaway week and they were the cheapest I could find..most add on so many extras it soon mounts up! I like to keep it simple too, no need for bars etc! As we bring our dog we can't use places like that and now the children are grown up no need for 'entertainment'. We liked the clean facilities, although they will need more when ... Disliked: The drive through the village was nerve wrecking! I am not the most confident tow-er! I dreaded meeting anything!(we did too!) The buzz of the pylon was annoying but you soon tune out!
From the manager...
Many thanks for your lovely review which we appreciate very much and are glad you had a nice time. We take on board that you like the non commercial feel of the site and this is something we wish to maintain. The Pizza was lovely and we are glad that you found this nice. Regrettably there is not much we can do about the rural roads in Dorset. |
Facebook Twitter Google Plus |
Liked: i found this campsite very friendly, helpful the shower blocks were clean alongside the toilets washing up point all supplied but cold water only good luck for the future if you want a quiet relaxing campsite then this is for you. Disliked: i found where the camp was situated far from nowhere, that there was not a small shop on site, as i said if it a quiet campsite you are looking for then this is the site,
From the manager...
Thank you for your feedback. We have already sorted out the cold water issue with the sinks but thank you for raising it. Bear with us on the shop, we are looking into this for next season hopefully! |
Facebook Twitter Google Plus |
Liked: The campsite was clean and tidy. We had some dog mess near our caravan and the owners picked it up immediately, which was fantastic. The toilets were clean and well stocked with toilet paper etc and no matter where you pitched up, you weren't far from the facities. The 'Pizza on the Hoof' was ingenious and a great idea. Would be happy to go there again, especially to see how this very new site ... Disliked: Not a 'dislike' as such, but whilst there are dish-washing up facilities, there is nowhere for laundry etc. There are communal washing lines, but nowhere to hand wash any clothing unless you wanted to use the sinks in the toilets. Suggested this to the owner/manager as personally would have found this useful, rather than having to find a launderette.
From the manager...
Thank you for the feedback and we are so pleased you had a nice stay with us. Thank you also for recommending to friends, we appreciate this. We take dog fouling very seriously on the site and have a no tolerance policy. We will consider what you say about washing facilities as we plan for the future. We hope to see you again sometime soon. |

Liked: The site was well maintained and clean. Disliked: There wasn't much within walking distance of the site and the roads would not be safe to walk after dark.
From the manager...
Thank you very much for your feedback which we will take on board. We will be increasing the number of showers soon, we have been much busier than we thought after only 4 weeks now being opened. Good point about being able to identify staff, we are in the process of printing some shirts with Higher Moor Farm Campsite on. |

Liked: How friendly everyone was. The security on site, and the fact that we could choose our own pitch, no matter the size of the tent. Disliked: Nothing.

Could not of done better Therese L. (Family with older children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: As first time tenters, we could not have chosen a better site. As it is brand new, the facilities were in tip top shape. The location is fabulous, so close for the beach or countryside. Our hosts were very kind and helpful. Disliked: The pylon humming, take earplugs or choose a site away from it. Hot water was lacking at the dish washing sinks. Only 2 showers per sex, so a bit busy at peak times.
From the manager...
Many thanks for your feedback and we are so pleased you had a great first experience of tenting at our site. We are aware regrettably of pylon noise which can occur in certain weather conditions. This is totally outside of our control but we do appreciate what you say. |
