See all facilities…

‘See, that’s how good little ducklings do it,’ you can say hopefully to the kids as they watch the baby birds obediently waddle after mum around the park…Sandyholme Holiday Park’s (fenced) wildlife pond with its flocks of geese and ducks is a big favourite with ducklings of all flavours, as is the peaceful location, the chilled out atmosphere and the sounds of birds tweeting from the trees as you let all the stresses of everyday life roll away from you like water off a duck’s back…

Sandyholme is tucked away in a secluded location on the edge of the scenic West Dorset villages of Owemoigne and West Dorset, surrounded by leafy trees and with excellent amenities: clean as a whistle showers and loos, a launderette, a licensed shop on site and wifi access across the whole park for those who simply must stay on the grid.

Spacious flat pitches with electric hook-up are available for tents, tourers and motorhomes, and well-behaved dogs are welcome. The ducklings will be quacking happily over the children’s playground and games room, while the knowledgeable staff and tourist information at the park will help out with lashings of info on walks and things to do nearby for the whole family – museums, events, seaside towns and local family-friendly inns among many others.

Guests at Sandyholme can also use the facilities at fellow West Dorset Leisure Holidays site Highlands End Holiday Park 18 miles west for a small charge: take your pick from an indoor pool, sauna/steam room, tennis court or pitch and putt, before getting your beaks twitching at the meals in the family bar.

Nearby attractions and activities

Go a-roamin’ to Dorchester’s Roman Amphitheatre or the Roman townhouse remains in the grounds of County Hall, get your toes wet or go fishing at seaside resorts Charmouth, Lyme Regis and West Bay, get energetic with easily accessible golfing, fishing, scuba diving and sailing, take in the views of Golden Cap and the island of Portland from Chesil Bank and West Bay, or just pack a picnic and explore Dorset’s World Heritage Jurassic Coast…there are walks and trails all around the countryside surrounding Sandyholme to find the perfect chill out spot.

The Lawrence Trail, following the story of writer and soldier T.E. Lawrence, starts at the Tank Museum in Bovington and winds through the nearby villages of Owermoigne and Moreton: chatter with the primates at Bovington’s Monkey World too, then have a mouth-watering Dorset munch at the tearooms in Morton’s old schoolhouse before wandering around Moreton Gardens.

Savvy shoppers should make a stroll around Bridport a top tick on the shopping list: this market town has some of the widest streets in England and has had an outdoor Saturday market since permish was granted by Liz the First way back in the sixteenth century; you can now double your chances of finding a bargain by browsing the market on Wednesdays too. There are over a thousand listed buildings in Bridport for you to lug all your shopping around – try the eighteenth century town hall before rewarding all that historical virtue and wetting your whistle with the ale at the eighteenth century Palmers Brewery. Beaminster, Dorchester and Sherborne are good additional options for maxing out the credit cards with handcrafted goodies and shops to suit all tastes and budgets.

The seaside town of Weymouth is just one of many to spend a day or afternoon in, following in the watery steps of George III who came here fourteen times in the hope that a Weymouth dip would cure his bouts of insanity (it didn’t, but it did put Weymouth on the map as a top tourist destination). Today, there are family attractions and events alongside the safe beach and picturesque harbour: after the Punch and Judy or bouncing on the trampolines, challenge the kids to make a sand sculpture to top those of Weymouth’s sand modeller, a family tradition in the town since the 1920s.

Liked: We had a very nice relaxing break, the park was very clean facilities were spotless aswell. Your managers chris and his wife (sorry we did not know her name) were very freindly and helpful. The shop was stock enough for people needes and resonably prised cheaper than alot of camping sites which makes a big differance. Would we go back, of course we would lots of things to do around the area even families with ...

Disliked: No dislikes

Great quiet location, clean and friendly

Liked: Apart from the owls it was quiet at night which was good as i had my children with me. Play area and football pitch was good although at the other end of the site. Shop had essentials in and was not overpriced. Toilet and shower block basic but clean, showers included in price so no need to find stacks of 20p's. No complaints

Disliked: Dog walkers using the camping field to exercise thier pets. To be fair they all picked up their dog mess but when your kids are running around the field theres still the potential for accidents. Someone had marched through some near the shower block so not everyone was tidying up after their pets. A few more hooks near the sinks would be useful.

Liked: All facilities were spotless. Indoor washing up area was very welcome. The shower block was heated, nice on a cold morning. Pitches with hook up were clearly marked.

Disliked: People arriving after dark to pitch their tents and making a noise.

Liked: Lovely setting, good facilities overall and friendly wardens. Lots for children to do in a safe environment. The site is well run. We stayed when it was not very busy and found the site very tranquil, and there is loads to do in the area nearby.

Disliked: The showers were not very powerful which meant having to contort yourself under a small dribble of water, not easy when you are 6'3

Liked: The cleanliness of the site. The facilities were immaculate and regularly cleaned. The pitch was flAt and ample space was allocated for each pitch.

Disliked: Not a dislike but improvement could be the power of the showers. Although warm and clean they did cause issues for my six yr old daughter who kept banging her head as she had to stand right next to the wall to get the way to fall on her as there was no power in them at all.also as my Hair is long, after a day in the sea, washing and rinsing in the ...

Liked: The shop, and the staff were exceptionally helpful, and very quite and scenic souroundings.

Disliked: we got keys for the family room, thinking that we would have access, but someone was in there at the time, so they must be handy out multiple keys.

play are, is for adults only, and maybe the ducks should be more acceptable i.e. no electric fence so near kids.

After an excellent afternoon kayaking with Jurassic kayak tours, we had a great night's camping. The tent site met my key criteria: it was a beautiful and peaceful location and the ground was flat, while the showers were clean, with plenty of hot water.

Liked: Plenty of tent spaces to choose from. The field was surrounded by trees and was well maintained.
Great advice on a pub to eat in the evening - thank you. While there are no good pubs in walking distance for an evening meal, it was easy to get a taxi and the taxi driver even dropped us off right by our tent!
Only a short drive to Lulworth Cove.
Beautiful country location.

Disliked: An onsite cafe where we could get a cooked breakfast would be a good addition (we didn't bring extensive cooking equipment). However, the 'Five and Dime' cafe in Wareham offered an excellent alternative.
