It’s a stonkingly safe bet that any site listed as having an ‘infrared therapy cabin’ is going to be one where you can relax and get away from it all. Woodovis Park, set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Devon/Cornwall border, has this in spades: tranquil and relaxed but with Devon delights just on the doorstep, beautiful beaches within easy reach, plenty of active options nearby, a heated indoor pool and spa, and, the topping on the Devonshire cake – fresh bread, croissants and pain au chocolate all baked daily for the on-site licensed shop. Our mouths are watering already.
There are absolutely no options for stress here: facilities in this safe family-friendly park are second to none and include twinkingly clean loos and free hot showers, wifi available throughout, a parent and baby washroom, a launderette and – blessedly – a bath for soaks in blissful solitude, all waiting for you along with one of the warmest welcomes in Devon.
There’s a wood-chipped play area and games room for the small people, as well as a nature trail, outdoor table tennis and a pétanque court to ping about on, and green campers can relax at the site’s environmental creds: it’s won a David Bellamy Gold Conservation Award as well as picking up gold in the Green Business Tourism Scheme. Dogs will also have a barkingly good time, as Woodovis is dog friendly and has a dedicated dog walking area. (There’s even a dog wash area, although perhaps tails won’t be wagging too much at that.)
Pitches are all you need to fully unwind: there are fully-serviced grass and hardstanding pitches with electric hook-up, and the staff will even lend you a groundsheet to put under your tent if you need it. The site is tranquil, with no outside road noise, and if you do fancy a bit of bustle there’s a traditional pub with good food around half a mile’s walk away.
But back to that therapy cabin. The infrared rays here are used as part of a targeted deep heat treatment to warm the back’s blood vessels – soothe all your non-holiday stresses here before splashing about in the heated pool with the family or taking in a bit more relaxation in the spa room. Well, you can never have too much relaxing…
Nearby attractions and activities
First on your must-do list should be a trip to nearby Tavistock, market town and home of the cream tea; browse around the regular farmers’ markets to pick up the best Devonshire produce. To walk all that food off, you’re only a short drive from Dartmoor with its walking, cycling and horse-riding trails, or there are other active options including tree-surfing and canoeing nearby.
Those for whom a holiday wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the beach will be in sandy heaven, with some of the best beaches in the country easily reachable by car: bounce around the rock pools at Bovisand, get sand between your toes at Seaton, or explore the several small beaches at Talland Bay.
For historical highlights, the National Trust’s Castle Drogo has gardens and a gorge-ous view over the Teign Gorge, family walks and bike rides at Plymbridge, Sir Francis Drake’s former home Buckland Abbey and Dartmoor’s Lydford Gorge, the deepest in the South West and with a waterfall 30 metres high.

Excellent site. Warm welcome. Friendly staff. Fabulous bread.Loved it! Ian33547 (Family with older children, 1 review, 0 photos)
Liked: We stayed over easter 2013 which was the coldest easter for years. We received the warmest of welcomes from Jo on our arrival who quickly helped us forget the 4 hour journey we'd just endured. In fairness she spoke to us as if she'd known us for years and took us to our pitch and even offered to help set up. Loved the indoor heated pool, thermotherapy sauna and jacuzzi. The site also ... Disliked: There's nothing to dislike about this site. |

Like 2 peas in a camping pod deehumphris (Young couple, 1 review, 0 photos)
Liked: I liked everything! We stayed in a camping pod which was so warm and cosy but with plenty of space for 2, we forgot it was October. Site is beautiful and so well maintained. Everyone we met was lovely and they have brilliant facilities. Disliked: Little bit of a walk to toilets but I've had to go further! At least when you got there they were beautifully clean.

Great to hear you enjoyed your stay so much. Thank you for posting your review too! Come back and stay next year in our Super Pods maybe! |

Booked last minute and thoroughly enjoyed a four night stay despite terrible weather. Jogilbert (Family with young children, 1 review, 0 photos)
Liked: Loved the whole site, it felt small enough that everything was in easy reach of the tent (important with non-stop rain). The indoor pool and games room gave the children something to do even when the weather was wet, a pub within walking distance avoided the 'who's driving' debate and the preordered breakfast bread made for top-notch bacon sarnies! Disliked: Can't really think of anything that we disliked. I hope we will return again with children and dog and will definitely recommend to friends although I wouldn't choose to go with a group of friends as the no-noise after 10pm rule is enforced (as it should be).
From the manager...
Despite the weather...and in high season ...so pleased that the whole family enjoyed your stay. The peace and quiet really is quite special especially under a big starry sky! |

Quiet, relaxing site Alastair_D (Young couple, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: The quiet and peace (despite it being school hols!), pool, spa and sauna, good pubs with good food nearby, the stars at night Disliked: It's expensive! And apart from the local pub, you pretty much have to drive everywhere to do anything (e.g. to get to dartmoor). Tavistock had very slow moving traffic (one road through centre) when there in August, so seemed to take ages to get anywhere
From the manager...
Thank you for recommending us to your friends and so pleased that the pub ticked the boxes for you too! Best wishes. |
