If life’s little stresses are getting you down, flee and hide away in this award-winning park in a Devon wooded valley. From your doorstep at Hidden Valley all the highlights of north Devon are within easy reach, yet once you’re snuggled up in your sleeping bag, relaxing in the on-site restaurant or gazing dreamily over the countryside, it’ll be like the world outside doesn’t even exist. Which is a win.
There’s no need to leave until you’re fully rejuvenated, with plenty of relaxing options including wandering along the stream running through the park, lolling about the lakeside area and taking a woodland walk to spot kingfishers and otters. Take a tramp through the forest then come back for a full English breakfast or cream tea in the coffee shop overlooking the gardens and lake – there’s wifi access too so you can load up your iPod and studiously avoid catching up on work. Which is also a win.
Kids and dogs can hide away too, as there are two children's play parks for the youngsters and the park is dog-friendly. Other Hidden Valley amenities include luxury shower and toilet blocks with hairdryers and underfloor heating, full disabled facilities, a reception with tourist information, a licensed shop and a launderette.
Once it’s time to venture off site, there’s a bus stop just outside the entrance to the park.
Nearby attractions and activities
Hidden Valley is just four miles from two of Devon’s best-known beaches, Woolacombe and Ilfracombe, five miles from the surfing mecca of Croyde Bay and six miles from a family day out at the beach of Saunton Sands. The areas around all these are well worth a look, but the Victorian harbour town of Ilfracombe is a must for bucketloads of boat trips such as punts out to nearby Lundy Island, the seafront with the new Landmark Theatre, and St Nicholas Chapel on Lantern Hill, where a light has shone over the harbour for over 1000 years. Bring a torch and an attitude for a walk to the Ilfracombe Museum and Tunnels beach, reached by tunnels through the cliff.
There are many family attractions close by for all weathers, including the Big Sheep, the Dinosaur Adventure Park and Exmoor Zoo, while the sprogs will probably also like spotting ponies in the Exmoor wilderness, getting creeped out in the dungeon labyrinths of Watermouth Castle or taking to the skies in the rides at the Milky Way Adventure Theme Park.

Good campsite with excellent facilities. Our field was very basic though, however it suited our purposes. Very pleasant, helpful warden and staff and an excellent welcome on arrival. Charlotte_M0 (Family with older children, 1 review, 0 photos) Confirmed ?
Liked: Clean, free showers. Music playing in toilet facilities was a great idea. Plug socket available for hairdryers or mobile phones to be charged. Disliked: Our camping area was just a field - with the grass mown in part for extra campers - felt like a bit of an after thought! |

Directions
We are in a picturesque, wooded valley very near to the pleasant village of West Down, three miles east of Woolacombe and four miles south of the Victorian harbour town of Ilfracombe.
There have been several changes to the roads between the M5 and Hidden Valley, so we recommend you switch off your satnav and follow these directions, which will take you little over an hour.
From the M5 Junction 27, take the A361 towards Barnstaple. Follow this road for 30 miles, crossing three roundabouts.
The next roundabout you come to will have two exits. Take the first, which is the A39 towards Bideford, Bude and Ilfracombe.
Go straight over the next roundabout and over the Rumsam Bridge, which is crossing the River Taw.
The next roundabout is Lake Roundabout, take the second exit here (right) towards Barnstaple and Ilfracombe, back on to the A361.
You’ll shortly be upon Sticklepath Junction (Known as Barn-Hendge to the locals), go straight over to keep on the A361 towards Ilfracombe.
You’ll now be going over Taw bridge, which crosses the Taw Estuary.
At the first set of traffic light, go straight ahead, towards the T junction (200-300 yards ahead).
At the T junction - Braunton Road Junction - take the left, towards Ilfracombe & Braunton, again staying on the A361.
Keep on this road for four miles, over a set of traffic lights, past the Tarka Inn on the left and over the roundabout at Chivenor.
You’ll now enter Wrafton and then Braunton and be upon a small roundabout, take the second exit which is effectively straight ahead, towards Ilfracombe. (Take the first exit for Tescos).
Less than a mile ahead is the main crossroads in Braunton, go straight over at the traffic lights.
Keep on this road for 2 miles, and you’ll then see Hidden Valley on the left hand side. Please call into reception and we will show you to your pitch, or you can relax for a while in the coffee shop or lounge area.
